ah... I don't have the active cruise in my 2017. Maybe it is an improvement on the non-active type, but the cruise in the tacoma is so persnickity I never use it like i did in previous vehicles.

I find the tundra forum much nicer to hang out in. Way less problems with a proven drivetrain. Wait till the new drivetrain in the Tundra in 2021 and then it will be like here.

Trade it in on a tundra. Way better truck and is a blast to drive. I still have my first gen taco, but it just sits now.

Thanks, y’all. I love everything thing about it but the busy transmission and the boggy/laggy crap.

Tried the ECT on the way home, that helped a good bit. I think I’m gonna get the OVTune, just gotta save up for it.

The dealership is really what pisses me off. Tell me one thing on the phone, fight ATL traffic to get there, and they played dumb like they’d never heard of a Tacoma with transmission issues.

    First world problems, I guess.

I’m gonna try all of your suggestions before I give up on it, even the half of a functional nut comment, whatever that was about.

    Dealers suck.

OVtune is your answer for sure. Major improvement over the stock tune.

Here’s a realistic recommendation. Don’t make a snap decision. Drive it for 6-12 months then decide.

Just bought my 2019 TRD off road in late June. I heard about the transmission quirks and was told to drive it like I stole it. I didn't quite drive it like that but I didn't baby it either. I've got 4k miles on it now and although it still seems like it could be more responsive I don't have the issues that everyone talks about. My coworker has A TRD sport and absolutely hates the way the transmission is constantly hunting for gears, downshifting, and just doesn't respond well. He babies the shit out of his vehicles lol. I guess what I'm saying is, drive it they way you expect it to drive and I think it will adjust. Eventually I will probably cough up the $600 and change for the ovtune.

Just rented a full size F150 this past weekend to tow 6000+ lbs. Ended up being less than 4000lbs, but it was affordable at $45/day so just drove it for the weekend.

That AT trans was nothing to brag about, actually it bordered on shitty. While towing first gear went to near redline after every stop. The gas pedal was like pushing on a loaf of bread. Couldn’t wait to return the truck.

    It did get 19 mpg.

It’s my opinion you should not need to pay for OVTUNE. Toyota should fix their shit.

But, I can totally understand people resorting to third party solutions.

I hope this is RESOLVED in the 2020. If it is, I’ll sell my 2016 4Runner Trail Premium and 2015 Tacoma Sport 4x4 and consolidate.

    Placing bets?

2019s already have all the TSBs from the factory.

Looks like you may have neglected to do your research before buying.

There is a reason why there are daily complaint posts about the power train.

Just trade it in and get a Colorado or gladiator or ranger.

There has been no indication that this will be fixed in 2019

Man this sucks, sorry for you. I test drove a 2016 three years ago and then bought a 2015 MT for the same reasons.

No, no, and no. If GM would get their 8 speed automatic straighten out (or just ditch it and go with the 10 speed), it might be a decent truck.

Only real complaint I've had on either of my tacos.
