    Greetings,

Just got my new 2010 Tacoma tonight. It is actually my third one. I bought a Pyrite Mica, TRD Sport access cab 4 X 4, V6. However the excitement of the purchase was dampened by the frustration of working ( being jerked around ) by the dealer. It got so bad I was tempted to cancel the deal but I had invested a lot of time and they had the vehicle I wanted so I said WTF and bought it anyway.

One example was the salesman trying to sell me the 4 part Auto Butler for paint, interior, undercoat protection and sound proofing for $1,000.00. I told him that undercoating and sound proofing were a waste of money and initially agreed to paint and fabric protection for $790.00 which he said was the employee price. This was at the end of a long day for me. After a good night sleep I gave it more thought and realizing that I was getting hosed, canceled the Auto Butler then went and picked up my new truck and put it in my garage. This was just one of several issuesI had with the dealer. What is with these people? This is not the first new car I have ever bought but it will be the last from this particular dealer.

Phew, now I vented and feel better. All will be right with the world in the morning when I drive my new Tacoma to work.

    Thanks to all for listening,

    cbreeze

Car dealers are the worst substance on earth. Manufactures would be better off finding a better way to distribute cars. However, they never learn and we seem to be sheep.

I'd've found another dealer. Never be in a hurry to buy a vehicle or afraid to walk out. You have to hardass these fucks.

I agree with the guys above. As the customer/buyer, the ball is completely in your court. For example, I went to the local stealership this past weekend and left with a 2010 Pyrite mica double cab 4x4 TRD sport short bed as a demo for the entire weekend. There was a huge mark up on the packages and what not. I also got word over the weekend that I'm leaving for deployment in ~3 months for 6-7 months. There's no point on me buying a truck now and be paying for it for half a year and not drive it at all. My wife sure as hell wouldn't touch it.

At least out of the entire weekend demo'ing the truck. I know exactly what i when I return from deployment. I'm looking forward to see if a rep from the manufacturer will come onboard and sell vehicles as ordered at manufacturer's costs + transport fees only. That'll cut the stealership's mark ups completely. =)

Go in knowledgeable about what you want, and what you should be paying. Get price quotes from multiple sites, and read up on buying a new car on edmunds.com. They will try and tell you the site is BS, but it isn't.

When toyota was buying my truck back, I wanted to see the difference between going in prepared and unprepared.. so the first time I went in, I knew very little about buying a truck... the guy was ruthless... negotiated by monthly payment, I would have ended up paying a shitload for a base 5 lug regular cab tacoma... I forget the amount now, but it was a lot.

Well standing cow I will temporarily excuse the fact that you are the enemy.
    Standing is absolutely correct.
Edmunds.com and kbb.com are excellent resources.
Consumer reports for autos is excellent but to get a report its about $20 but has every detail broken down.
The dealer I ended up dealing with gave me some outrageous price and horrible trade in.
I looked at the numbers and looked at him and said"
"I came in here wanting to by a truck. with these numbers you are going to have to sell me a truck"

sound proofing? I would make them list what soundproofing is applied/installed and ensure its documented so its covered under warranty
If they give you a hard time about fabric protector, tell them under no circumstances can you have any fabric protector due to it being teflon based and it is deadly to your parrot (teflon and feathered creatures do not mix).
    Undercoating? scam scam scam

hehehe, at least the Rags are able to practice their golf swing. :)

Undercoating should be done on all vehicles that are sold in areas that they salt the shit out of the roads. I already lost my 98 to frame rot, and already seeing some rust on my 09.

You think dealers are tough on guys, try being a girl. OK, that is probably impossible, but trust me, you ain't seen nothin' till you see the GOB (Good Ol' Boy) network working a girl in the dealership. I was embarassed for them! I took my time and gave what I got. I think they were actually happy to be rid of me! HAHAHAHA! Sold my 1999 Ranger in less than 24 hours for $1100 more than their trade-in offer.

One loser dealer actually took me for a test drive without the dealer plate and I got PULLED OVER. He then tells the cop that the plate must have fallen off. Idiot. He also asked me if this was my real hair color. Do you see what I mean?? Any dealers are you guys that question??

My local Toyota dealer has a package for $3,995 that includes pin stripes, door edge guards, and a dealer hitch cover. Needless to say I drove an hour to another dealer that had no dealer add ons or mark ups at all. The only thing they tried to sell me was the Toyota extended warranty, which I politely turned down. Dealerships are in business to make a profit, which is fine, but I can't believe some of the stuff they try to pull. Then again, if people are buying it, they'll keep selling it.

I love how dealers add all that crap and charge you out the ass for it!! Ex. Window Tint 499.00 - WTF!!! I always tell them that I will not pay for it, twice I had to do custom order to get a Tacoma without dealer accessories and what not.

Very good point, but I like to start my negotiations at MSRP and work my way down, not 4 grand over. That doesn't mean you can't get a good deal, you just have to work harder.

Dealers are scum. My wife wont even go in with me anymore because I treat them so poorly. I have a calculator, my notes and a pencil to write down everything. The thing I hate the most is when they have to go ask the scumbag manager if the deal is ok. At that point, I tell them just to bring him over and so I can deal with them directly.

My buddies have had good luck buying thru Costco. No hassles and the prices are pretty good.
