Hello TW! Been a proud Tacoma owner for a couple months now and have been lurking for a while, but figured it was time to sign up.

My dad gave my my grandpa's '97 Tacoma 4x4 single cab since he upgraded to a new Nissan Titan. (Perks of retirement I guess) So I have been reading up and doing little stuff to it ever since. When he gave it to me the paint was really faded/chalky looking. So I went out and bought compound, polish and wax, and went to work. After a few days of giving myself a really sore arm, it looks a lot better.

I have a friend that works for a sign/graphics company. So I drew up my own version of the new Tacoma tailgate lettering in my CAD program and he is cutting me out new letters.

Front bumper was tweaked on the passenger side and lower valence damaged. $15 online replacement part and adjusting the bumper mounts made all the difference.

Already done the LED dash mod. Still need to swap out the dome light. (It's amazing my dad could read the dash with as dim as those bulbs were.) Going to tint the windows and eventually put on a lift/bigger tires. But since the tires on it have so much life left it doesn't make sense to throw them away.

Looking forward to learning more about the truck and making my own changes.

I should also add that I am planning to cut out the small "grille" molded into the lower valence and install a 20" LED light bar in the hole.

    One last comment I swear.

Amazingly the truck on just ticked over 88k miles! The truck has only been used locally and not for any long trips, so it has kept the miles down. It has always been used regularly by my dad or his brothers as a wood hauler, trash hauler, etc. So it hasn't been one to sit around for any length of time.

yes it is crazy! I was actually sitting with my grandfather (97yo) just a few days ago and was telling him about getting the truck from dad and starting to fix it up. One of the questions he asked was how many miles it had, and even he was surprised at how low the number was. He's glad to hear it is still being used as it should be and taken care of.
