NEW Toyo TIRES Bed Cage to hold 120 LBS of sand and fishing rod holder, window air deflectors, Bug Deflector, & finally Avid Light Bar and step rails....
    Hello

I just bought my first Tacoma to replace my 4 Runner. Drove it for the first time today and love it! But I am thinking of switching tires from the OEM Rugged Trail TA to the TA KO because I drive in the snow a lot up in NY and need better traction.

Does anyone know what should I ask for the Rugged Trails 265 70 R16? They only have 40 miles on them?

    Thanks

    Geo

i think if you put them on craiglist someone will pick them up but Rugged trail sucks ass... wish you luck on getting rid of them... I got the goodyear dura tracs... I think they are way better than AT/KO and cheaper... ever since michelin took over BFG and they know AT/KO is a awesome tire... they just back the price up... which is BS.

I wonder why do they put such inferior tires, which do not handle in wet snow conditions? I thought I was getting the AT KO's but I got the Rugged Trails.

I am considering the Good Year Wrangler Silent Armors, but the dealer does not give me any $ for my brand new OEM Rugged Tails!! Does anyone have any experience using the Silent Armors? I do highway, wet, snow and lots of sand driving.

Dissapointed very much, so I will buy them online and have my local gas station put them on. I will try selling the Rugged Tails on Ebay, unless someone here wants them!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW: I noticed much better wet snow traction after I added 2 60lb sand bags on top of each wheel; I boxed the bed with 2 by 8 so the bags are on top of the wheels and do not slide. Is that a good idea? I could not drive up a steep drive way in 2WD without the sand bags.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
My 2 day review of my 2011 4 Door bouble cab V6 TRD is as follows:
    - Nice Ride, but it hums a lot (engine or tranny noise) at 60 - 65 mph
    - When making turns on snow wet conditions the real tires skip, hop, and slide (I hav enbot tested this after I added the sand bags)
    - Break padle feels like the pads are low, it is not tight
    - Comfortable seat/lumbar, but I can not move the seat up/down
    - I can not turn the fog lights on without the main beams...................

I have not yet tested on the highway and sand.. I am not sure if this applies, but I try to break a new car by driving around town in the first few hundred miles.

When I make a turn from a stop light, in 2WD, the rear seems to be vibrating, it is not making a smooth turn?? Is this the Rugged Tails, or the rear axle?? Is it normal?

BTW: Can someone explain the difference between the Good Year Duratrack and SilentArmors? Looking for quiet highway driving, excellent wet/snow and sand perfomance tires. Also is it a good idea to add 240lb sand bag weight on top of the rear tires?

i dont have any vibration on the rear axle thou

good year is a all-terrain tires, silent armor is good too but isn't aggressive like the duratrac. duratrac isn't quiet on the highway, awesome on the SNOW, MUD, and RAIN. My opinion Silent Armor isn't good on the mud thou, but everything is awesome too. do a google search on duratrac and see for yourself. Also the price too... :)

They dont make a 265-70-16 so I am tilting between the Silent Armors or the BFG T/A KOs. Based on the posts here, not too many like the BFG KOs.

What should I do? Does anyone hate the Silent Armors?
95% of my driving is highway and Sand (not too much mud or rock).

    thanks

That vibrating in the rear is the VSC kicking in (brake pulsing) to help you maintain a straight line and not loose traction. It is normal.
