Active traction. Its work only in 4 low. It applies brakes to tires with no traction to shoot power to tires with traction. Works really well while 4 wheeling.

VSC is traction control to aid in preventing you from loosing control of the vehicle.

Trac is meant to limit engine power when tires start to spin too much.

Click on the link in my sig for a pretty full read... http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-controls-trac-auto-lsd-trac-rear-locker.html

I have had 3 Tacomas, and the third has A-TRAC... it makes the truck climb, pull, get out of problems like a Sherman Tank. The closest way to describe it is it is like automatic front and rear lockers... if any tire begins to spin from loss of traction, the A-TRAC applies just enough brake to that tire to balance power to the other tire on the axle.

It differs from TRAC in that it stops spin like a locker, and not just limits spin. I found that you do need to mash the pedal if your truck stops moving in a hill climb using A-TRAC, and the system wakes up and pulls you onward. I have video clips of that happening (One Tri Hill). Also of me pulling a 2WD stuck truck using A-TRAC. See the two links in my sig.

Note: In 2012, a 10th drive mode was added in H4. TRAC in H4 now has engine regulation and the new unregualted traction control is called TRAC OFF and requires a quick push of the VSC button.
