Currently drive a 2002 Ford Ranger edge 4x4. Thinking about trading her in on a Tacoma 4 door 4x4. Can anybody tell me the pros and cons of the Tacoma and which models i should look into. Current truck is a blast and will be hard to replace, great off roading and playing on the trails. What i want to know what are the some issues that people are having.

    Thank You

If you want to play on the trails.. and I know you're from Ga, I would get something smaller and more durable. A jeep, or a modded up clumpy suzuki. The tacoma's big and expensive for off road. Has minimal ground clearance, for an off roader, and has that IFS. You can get away with it, sure. But to "play" you'd be happier with a beater off road car. Even a cherokee will be better, just for its approach and exit and width. Even a square headlight wrangler in stock form would be a hell of a lot more fun. Suckiest thing in the world is crunching the bank's new 4x4...(even if the bank doesn't own it)

Buy a 500 dollar clamp and keep your street truck.. Or just take your ranger off road.. why not? Smaller anyway.

If you're dead set on going off road and only in a tacoma. get the single cab, access if they don't sell the stuff you want in the single.

They do have a decent aftermarket for the tacoma. But pickups are for going to the store, jeeps are for "playing off road". ooh.. you know what else is a blast... a baja beetle.
