Alright everybody! I had another thread going but I figured I’d dedicate a thread to the post purchase.

All the bad:(that I know forsure)
    1.supercharger needs rebuilt(done@ ~190,000)
2.Some rust on the frame, but not so bad that it can’t be mended
    3. Driver door handle needs replaced (done)
    4. Has some hail damage on the roof and hood
    5. One dent on passenger fender that can be fixed
    6. Small dent from an ambitious driver side door opener.

    All the good no order
    1. $1500!
    2. Has a dealership installed supercharger
    3. TRD headers
    4. 180,000
    5. * I think this is just a warning sticker because of the ECM computer system in general. Apparently has an upgraded computer? Need to look into that, there’s a sticker under the hood
    6. Body is generally in pretty great shape, could be repaired if I’m feeling ambitious.
    7. The interior is in awesome shape, no tears, no stains on the seats (one stain on the floor mat in the back) but generally one of the nicer interiors I’ve seen in a first gen (In person).
    8. Did I mention $1500 and 180,000 miles!? What!?? I still can’t believe it.

here’s a couple of pictures of the truck and some of the rust. I went peening around and everywhere that looked the worst, still had that metal sound to it. I will take more tomorrow in the daylight, It got too dark for good photos

    Engine bay
Shot of the driver side engine bay, passenger side does have that damn ac drip rust spot couldn’t get a good picture.
passenger side middle of truck, this is what a lot of the frame looks like. Closer to the bed on passenger side
Driver side near near the back end this is one of the worse spot I noticed, but again, I peened it and sounds like I still have solid metal, it almost looks like a shitty coating was attempted at one point without doing the proper preparation. Not sure on that. But it has the dealer sticker on it and it was bought right in Littleton so I’m it entirely sure why the rust
Here is a photo of the driver side frame in front of the tire, to show how this area of the frame is in great condition. Where most of the rusting seems to be on the back end.

oh ya, and it’s only got 180,000miles on the engine, timing belt replaced, water pump replaced, and almost new tires.

Honestly, clients from a bathroom remodel I did. the supercharger went and they didnt want to deal with it. They’re not really into wrenching, and didn’t want to pay for the supercharger to be fixed. Also I think them being super happy about their bathroom, helped a lot. Just another reason to go the extra mile to make your work the best quality you can. When I started that job, i never would have guessed that truck would be sitting in my driveway. They offered me the price and I about fell out of my single cab!

How much would a frame swap set me back?
I’m defiantly going to be doing something

that’s what I was thinking. Dont they! The 96 is now clocking 363,000+ Original motor no rebuilds I’m sooooo close to the 400,000 mark! Maybe one day I’ll have two 3.4s over 400,000!

From the pics you posted, you don't need a frame swap. You just need to clean it up and treat the rust with POR 15 or Rust Stop, or something. There's tons of information here on TW on how to fix it. Treat it, paint it, and if your not living in the rut belt, you'll be good to go. here's a link for good reading about frame rust.

Right on, that was my original plan, Im glad to hear thats what you think from looking at the photos. My 96s frame is in really good shape so frame rust stuff is all new to me.

    Thanks for the thread link!

Ill do my best to document what I do on this truck and keep this thread updated with pictures. The super charger will be first to get an operation then maybe ill start with removing the bed to deal with frame rust repair and move my way forward.

Thanks man, especially being in CO where these are notoriously pricey, I'm beyond stoked. This is the exact truck I've been wanting, me and the lady have a baby on the way and the single cab wasn't going to work for that! But since it was such a good deal, I get to keep my 96 single cab! Hail Zorp!

I see you have a methanol injected SC. now, what is the reason to do this and should I look into doing it once my SC is all rebuilt?

I have a friend that also does bathrooms, and he's wanting to to do me a solid deal for a good price, but I can't ever seem to raise the cash needed. By the way, nice job on the bathroom, the customers should be really pleased, it looks nice. That price you got that truck for is just unheard of. That's the score of the decade in my opinion. First thing you should do is change all the fluids, Transmission, rear differential, Transfer case, and front differential. Power steering fluid(check to see if your year uses Auto Transmission fluid), and brake fluid also. That way you know everything is fresh and new. There's plenty of videos by Timmah the tool man, and you can always ask questions here on TW. The members are all top notch, and will answer any and all questions you might have. Take care of your truck, and it will take care of you.
