2016 TRD Off Road 4x4 with MTS/crawl control. ~1500 miles.

My driveway slopes up from street to garage door--average for my neighborhood--not super steep.

Pulled up to door, while in DRIVE, let foot off the brake to roll backwards slightly (done this on 2013 Tacoma few times with no sounds/issues). Got grinding/pulsing from up front and light on dash with picture of vehicle and two squiggly lines flashed. Repeated it once, then got concerned it was not normal.

Manual on page 265 says the Hill Start assist Control "helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on incline or slippery slope…..when the TRAC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control/hill-start assist control systems are operation…..the slip indicator light will flash while the (control) systems are operating*….*if equipped with Multi-Terrain Select/Crawl Control."

Page 267 goes on to list sounds and vibrations felt through body and steering as well as noises are normal and not malfunction. Still, felt very strange and never experienced before, but may not have had Tacoma with this feature out of my 8 tacomas and 3-4 with 4x4.

Normal behavior? Brakes pulsating or transmission grinding? Thanks.

Whew. Thanks. What I've learned: "don't do that". I googled and found an older thread on here, but was not as completely explained as what you linked. I appreciate the time.

On the Honda Civic SI I had before (manual), it just applied the brakes and you had to release the clutch with some gas, then it would suddenly move forward. Also kind of unnerving, but quickly feels normal. The sounds and vibrations of the Tacoma system should be improved!
