*Laughs in every single Orkin and Terminix driver that was given a brand new Tacoma 180,000 miles ago and didn’t give a shit how it was broken in.*

Don’t stomp on either pedal for a few hundred miles. Aside from that… just drive and enjoy it.

I just got done breaking in a 6.4L Hemi. I had detailed guidance on speeds that the manufacturer does not want me to go over and I followed those as best as I could -- it is all about getting the piston rings to seat and get a nice cross hatch on the cylinder wall throughout the entire RPM range SAFELY, which is why you'll usually see "vary your speeds and do not exceed X speed and Y RPM for Z miles(kms)" then they will let you go higher speeds and higher RPMs and then they'll let you take it through the entire RPM range.. then it is done.

It is all about getting those piston rings to seat and prevent uneven engine wear my dude. I know guys that are towing heavy with 150 miles on their brand new truck and years later have no issues. Anecdotal evidence sure, but I wouldn't get the cotton thong in a twist too much about breakin.

This is exactly what I'm doing. Everyone said the oil change at 1500 wasn't necessary, but the Toyota dealer that I didn't buy it from sent a coupon for a free one, so I figured "wth, I'm going for it."

Many will say this is overkill…let them.

My personal recipe: Short trips and stay off the freeway for the first 100. Stay under 60mph for the first 500 miles. Drive normally but sensibly up to 1000 miles. After that, do whatever you want.

Not really a concern about engine breaking in…all this is for a quiet rear diff for life. Rear diff gets really hot during the first 300 or so miles. Just take it easy for the first 200 and should be good.

I've had several new trucks before. Your fine. I picked my brand new 2023 2 weeks ago. Since then it's been back to the dealership several times! It didn't feel like it was shifting right and the torque converter seemed like it wasn't staying engaged like it should. I installed my Scangauge 3 and the TC temp was too high for me. I told the idiots to check the ATF level! They didn't want to spend that much time on it, so they ran all their tests and did "test drives" etc and kept saying it was fine. I finally went to another dealership where I know one of the Toyota Master mechanics. I told the service department I was dropping it off and not coming pick it back up until Ben checked the ATF level!

He had a camera recording the whole process to show me what all he did. He had Tech stream running, when it got to the correct temp he removed the ATF level check plug and NOTHING came out! He slowly introduced ATF until it was at the proper level. It was a quart low from the factory

So once I got it back I put it through it's paces, lol! A bunch of hard take offs and ran about 20-30 miles going about 85-90 MPH watching the ATF and TC temps.

I got about 350 pretty hard miles on it so far. So you should be fine. I do usually change the oil after 1000 miles are so in case there is any left over debris when they casted and assembled the engine. After a few thousand miles I usually change the oil in the differentials. But I already got a new one coming from ECGS and I'll have to do the break-in process on that one anyway so I'm not worried about changing the oil in the OEM diff.

MAKE sure you have them check the ATF level!!!!

When I was shopping for mine, the dealer had about 10 white SR access cabs for the local pest control fleets. I tried to get one, but they were reserved. :(

Ya i had to choose one that was still being built lol. Well choose is a strong word. It was the only one and when I picked it up the dealer was saying that like a bunch of people were also trying to get it after i reserved it

Cross hatching is already on the cylinder walls from honing before assembly. You break the rings in slowly to allow the edges of the rings to wear evenly. The ultimate goal to breaking in the pistons is to keep the cross hatching in place in the piston walls as it holds oils and will significantly decrease ring to cylinder wall wear. This also helps in the long haul by maintaining cylinder pressure.

The Drive it Like you Stole it mantra is probably the worst thing you can do.
I never understood why you would purposely attempt to abuse the working innards of an engine that hasn't
been properly and gingerly broken in. But I'm old school.
