It doesn't matter how much you travel. You have to be able to have the profit for a write off. You can't just write stuff off for the heck of it. Also, if the Raptor is not new it will not fall under section 179 bonus depreciation.

Dec 1, 2011 Important 4th quarter tax planning implications - to take advantage of the incentives, you must act by the end of this month. Both the 'Tax Relief Act of 2010' as well as the 'Jobs Act of 2010' that passed in late 2010 affected Section 179 in a positive way for this 2011 tax year. The newest changes are as follows:
The Section 179 Deduction limit increased to $500,000. The total amount of equipment that can be purchased increased to $2 million. This includes most new and used capital equipment, and also includes certain software.
“Bonus Depreciation” increased to 100% on qualified assets. However, this can be taken on new equipment only.
When applying these provisions, Section 179 is generally taken first, followed by Bonus Depreciation – unless the business has no taxable profit in 2011.
Also, many businesses find Section 179 Qualified Financing to be an attractive option in 2011.

    seriously this ^

well it seems he'll probably qualify but, that's despite the point of all the money he would lose out, but if the money is worth it to exchange for a 4x4 that you want, go for it, and with the raptor gl with gas money too even if you write it off, it wont be 100%

Actually any used car or truck qualifies. If you read carefully the credit applies as the vehicle is "new" to you. doesn't matter if it is new or used.

YES, DO IT!! I bought 4 new service vans for my techs this year due to section 179 bonus depreciation. It is great and most of the automotive companies are using it as a sales pitch. I sale commercial food equipment and I use it also.

The whole program is a "bonus", but then there is the "bonus depreciation" inside the program. You can write off up to $500,000.00 worth of equipment. If you qualify you can write off 100% of the equipment as long as it is in place and running by Dec. 31st. So in other words, you can not order it on Dec. 30th and it arrive Jan. 2nd, it would not qualify. It is a good program to help boost the economy.

There are many ways to deduct the expense of a vehicle if you are self employed and even more if you just title the vehicle to the business that's what I did with several of our cars, 100% deducted and no requirement for gvwr. Hell two of my business vehicles are camrys. But rules are different places and different professions, I would t just read the tax laws just talk to a tax guy they won't charge you anything to tell you. Actually my Tacoma is also deducted 100% as a business expense.

You can write practically anything off if you have the profit. I wrote off a yard plugger last year.

personally i'd get the offroad taco without an entune. The offroad has a rear locker, and the entune is pretty costly, you can go better aftermarket for less

My service manager has a Raptor and Loves it, for its looks. Thats it! He hates the ride and he off roads in his 2004 Taco just because he hates everything else about his Raptor.
Just my 2cents, Tacoma is the way to go for reliability, longevity, and resale!
