The FX4 Ecoboost should be one of your options.

I would have picked it. Instead, I picked used Raptor.

I know the question seems ridiculous on a tacoma forum but I'm sure at some point everyone here wishes their truck was just a little bit bigger. I have an 11 mgm dcsb trd OR 2wd. I wanted a 4wd and with the tax credit this year for new vehicles I am having a huge dilemma between choosing another tacoma 4wd vs a fx4 or raptor. I live in south texas and there is alot of off roading to do here. You can drive on the beach near the island which is pretty cool and I want a badass truck. This is worse than buying a house

FX4 if you need a fullsize truck. Tacoma if you don't. I am not sold on the Ecoboost in a truck. It's just not right to have a V6 anything in a fullsize pick up. The new 5.0 is plenty powerful and fuel mileage isn't that much worse than the Ecoboost. In fact from what I have read from F150 owners the term "Eco" should be used lightly when talking about the Ecoboost V6.

Also, the FX4 package is by far the best looking package offered on the F150. Nothing is worse than seeing the chrome around the tail lights.

Raptor would be nice, but Tacoma would be a whole lot cheaper and will have left over money to mod it, and the fx4 like others said Im not really a fan of the ecoboost

It works right. Every vehicle has it's limits. It's simple as that. Showing it do jumps doesn't mean it can handle any jump, period. If an owner doesn't have common sense, how is that Ford's fault? It's like seeing a Taco tow in a commercial then wondering why you break something trying to tow 12,000lbs. Add a long travel kit to a Tacoma and take it off too much of a jump you'll bend the frame too. I like the Raptor, I'd never buy one though cause I wouldn't make use of all the extra gadgets to make it worthwhile to lose the payload, towing, etc.

OP, why do you think you need to add thousands to a Tacoma to make it as off road worthy as an FX4? Just get an Off Road instead of a Sport. While I like the FX4 they don't have anything different than a Tacoma Off Road has. Only thing the FX4 is really giving you is a different suspension, some skid plates, and the rear locker. Same as Tacoma OR.

If you're doing any serious off roading, the Taco would be the better choice do to it's size. If you need full size capabilities as far as towing, etc. get the FX4.

If you have a 4WD Off Road, why would you make a 4WD Sport as an option? Is a fake hood scoop more valuable to you than more traction (rear locker, A-TRAC, hydraulic brake booster)???

If spending money is important, then order a Stewart's Raceworks Luxury Ford Raptor Pre Runner... you could spend up to $600,000. I rode in one, they are nice (and FAST).

I vouch for a Prius with a lift kit. You can go offloading and we won't have another thread of someone complaining about the gas milage of a Tacoma lol.

Pick a ford over a taco on this site, gtfo lol. If you argue over full size and mid size get a tundra. :goingcrazy:

I was looking at the new FX4's as I had a 2006. But I didn't need a full sized truck. IMO, in it's segment the Tacoma is the best. You just have to decide if you need a bigger truck or not. The Raptor is great, but mileage blows. Get a Tacoma, throw on a lift, wheels/tires and your good! I do have to admit the Sync I had in my 11 Mustang was better than Entune. It's still cool, tho. Completely happy with my 12 Tacoma.

The Raptor is $50k and it's a great truck. Tacoma $30k and it's a great truck. Is the Raptor 20k better maybe, a Taco is a Taco and a Raptor a Raptor. If I had to pick one cost no option Raptor then add a Pro Charger. It is what it is if I jump my Raptor OUCH if I jump my Taco OUCH. The Ford may bend but the taco will rust. Do they buy back the Ford if it gets bent? Toyota buys back rusted Tacoma's:D

so I've been getting calls from all the dealers as they are trying to clear out '11 inventory. Found an '11 FX4 5.0 mag grey sticker was 45,614, they want to sell it for $34,000.00. Funny, there is a 2011 trd or 4x4 that a local dealer will sell for only 500 below sticker. DAMN TOYOTA! Hold their resale value so well. Oh and the guy wanted me to take it home so i said ok, left the taco at the ford dealership and drove the fx4 home. Truck definately doesnt get kicked around so much in the wind and highway ride is nice. Something tells me the size of the taco is perfect unless youre hauling big stuff. Well i'lll sleep on it and see how i feel in the morning.

Just my 2 get the Tacoma. I like Fords but there is a reason it's 34K 10K off. I have had lots of problems with my Tacoma but nothing bad, just one thing that fucking blower. Ford does build a good truck but if you want to put 200k miles on it get the Taco. The Ford will be done at 120k & 7 years. A Tacoma will last 10 years and all the miles you can drive.

I kind of feel the same way. There is just a certain feeling you get when you shut the door of a car or truck and it feels solid. The f150 feels like i'm closing a door on a school bus. The tacoma seems more solid.
