2016 tows faster than 2nd gen. More hp, pure math, almost 20% ! Almost by a minute.
3rd gen is much much faster in passing also.
2nd is faster off the line for a second or two but then its a bog in higher rpms where you need it.

Hahahahah can't wait for this. But what the 4.0 lacks in towing, it does better at offroad because of more torque down low? ??

Dunno, I don't yap about the 2nd gen because I know ZERO about it or it's engine. A lot of 2nd genners don't have that kind of filter on their comments when it comes to the 3rd gen though :D.

I tend to see the comments of people who have owned both gens as more credible.

    Meh.

Like I said, get the manual! 2nd or 3rd gen!

From what I gather...2nd gen has more torque down low, which is what you want in a manual transmission truck. My buddy did buy a 2017 dclb (read auto) and his wife won't drive it because she said it is so slow compared to her Durango with a v8. It has 33s though with no regear.

    Can't argue with that.

The Taco has 33's, stock gears, auto and OEM tune?

I found a 2010 access cab v6 bright red 6 speed. My axles (4.10), suspension, wheels, bumper, and flatbed will swap straight over

    Thanks dude. Happy to help.

I never spoke to him directly, but there's a dealership employee in Shreveport who is a TW member. I never spoke to him but we exchanged some messages when I did my deal. He was super helpful and I know you said you're looking in Texarkana which isn't too far. Send a message to jkilpatrick357. He might be able to help you get one ordered.

Get a second gen and be done. The third gens are gutless. I’ve drove a 3rd gen for about 5k miles back and forth from sc to pa. It hunts in the mtn s like crazy. Spinning 4-5k till ya feel the power as mentioned. The bottom end torque is better in the second gens. 100 percent my opinion, but the build quality on the 3rd gens isn’t as good. They feel cheaper even with the upgraded interior. Still nice trucks, but not for me.

Best place to go for a Manual is Murfreesboro Toyota. I live in the Dallas area and had to get mine from them because no one in Texas had one and the only manual trd or that could be ordered with manual was black. Guy named Gus was my salesman, here is his number.

A word of caution on the 3rd Gen manual. The reverse gear (not sure what Toyota was thinking here) is very high. You will find backing up a trailer to be a total pain in the rear. You can always do the 2Lo mod talked about here... https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lock-stock-and-2wheel-low-3rd-gen-diy-mod.536677/

I live on a steep hill with a long narrow driveway and have to go to 4lo to back a trailer up the driveway. It's really my only complaint about the truck.
