Smaller like the old Tacoma., if you want bigger get a tundra. TRD package available in base trim. Real off road tires optional like BFG AT KO, or KM2's.
    A TURBO DIESEL!!!
Rear window that rolls up down like on Tundra crew cabs. Pull back sunroof like on the new Liberty's. built in roll bar.
MANUAL SHIFT TRANSFERCASE, Front and rear lockers.
Make the STAR safety system optional and or be able to turn off all the stupid bells and whistle warnings! Glad my 05' doesn't have that!

Good news! You will not have to wait for the next generation Tacoma because you can have all that now. You even have choices! I recommend Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, or Chevrolet 1500.

What we have now in the Tacoma is a mid-size pickup that can do just a little of everything but is great at nothing.

The current Tacoma is a bloated version of a small truck with excess sheet metal and plastic cobbled onto small truck strength components. It has almost the footprint and fuel economy of a fullsize pickup with none of the power, overall strength, hauling ability, and towing ability.

Unfortunately, you are right. My guess is that your list are things that will make it onto the next Tacoma before items like I listed. Why? You are the average American consumer.....or you are joking.

In any case, I think the days of vehicles designed to withstand harsh conditions and be end-user serviceable are over.

Check out Toyota's Australia website to see cars and trucks that are designed to withstand harsh conditions, and be end-user serviceable! Like said above the average American buyer wants

    "Power Seats!
    Temperature AC Controls
    Dual Climate Zones
    Nav for sure
    LEATHER!!!!
    Moon Roof"

The average American consumer=most of the people

most of the people=most of the money

You have to give the masses what they want. It's good business.

Apparently Ford has a small V8 diesel ready to put in the F-150, however they are waiting for someone else to do it first? I'm not sure why, but Ford was the only one of the big 3 that didn't take any bailout money, so they must know something. I read that in Diesel Power mag. I totally agree though, a half ton or smaller with a wicked little turbo diesel would be awesome. I kinda like that Jeep Grand Cherokee only because it has the Mercedes 3.0L diesel. And there not bad 4x4's either.

I haven't seen anybody say locking glove box and center console. My dad had a 1983 Cressida, maan that was a good made car and had locking everything. They don't make cars like that anymore.

    THIS ^^^^^^^^^^

No Hummer wannabee boxcars. I would love to see a 4cyl. turbo ala Ford. Dealer told me RAV getting a facelift for 2012 models. Tacoma may not be far behind.

Yeah and locking glove box and remote gas cap door......

I'd like to see it get a bit closer in size to the Tundra , maybe with a bit bigger payload .

No need for a V8, that 240 horse v6 will keep up with my z71 with a 5.7 no problem. I want a cooler in the bed like the ridgeline. and the tailgate to open both ways as well.
Other than that. tacoma ftw! like it the way it is! :)

    Completely agree..

All those creature comforts are already available on OTHER trucks and STILL the Tacoma is the best selling small pick up.

Good business doesn't change too much of something that is successful Toyota does not HAVE TO have leather and all those niceties ....yet.

Watch Ford and Chevy small trucks and SUVs closely though. They are catching up on many levels.
