Now that my friends tacoma is out of the shop, I can get started on my project car. Hauled it out of the garage and into the shop today with my Tacoma. 1984 BMW E30 with a straight 6 out of an 89. 5 speed.

Thanks! I bought this with an incomplete swap, non running. They PO had the wrong main relay installed. Put the right relay in and it fired right up. I now need to button up the wiring harness, it has the engine harness out of the 89 in it. Get everything working since the 89 harness doesn't play with the 84 body harness. Have to figure out the wiring to get all of the dash lights working. Get an exhaust, get the inside back together, replace missing trim and body gaskets, should be about it.

Lol! Maximum airflow. Actually, it's the oil cooler. With the shaved front bumper, it no longer fits. I plan on eliminating it, the ES models didn't have one, so the I model doesn't need it, unless you are track racing in arizona.

I had one of those too. Loved it, even though it had no power. I upgraded the suspension, but kept the stock ride height with Bilstein HD shocks, and H&R springs & swaybars. Lowering it required adding something to correct the rear camber, and I think required welding to install.

But it got great fuel mileage, and was a real pleasure on road trips.

i learned to drive in a '84 318i, my mom's AT. 0-60 maybe, mushy ass brakes, and the most balanced chassis and direct steering I've experienced to date as far as on-road vehicles go. it created an addiction to handling and chassis control in me that persists to this day 40 years later. now git er done!!

Good thing you never drove a E30 M3. That takes those inputs to the next level. It's the most intuitive (handling) automobile I've ever owned or driven, and I'm kicking myself for selling it.

The M3 is a crazy price right now. I have lowering springs for it. The PO already installed the rears, I need to install the fronts. I also have the adjustable rear sub frame from Gargatastic to correct the camber after lowering. Actually going to buy some sunroof parts and plastic trim pieces on Saturday. Sunday might go pick up some leather sport seats and more plastic trim. Or maybe I should focus on getting it drivable before I worry about trimming it out...

One reason I bought this is so my son could learn to drive on a manual, and learn some wrenching before.

Those are bringing "stupid crazy" prices. Kicking myself for selling mine. It was in need of a "makeover," so I decided to sell it instead of investing several thousands for body refurbishment. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

It was 100% mechanically, since I had already done the suspension and other upgrades.
