Definitely going to keep an eye on this one in case my KDMax tune doesn't settle and start feeling better

 

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with our work. We've driven the most popular tunes out there, and felt like we could improve them. I'd dare to say, you'll agree.

 

Have been on OV2.0 for a while now and sounds promising what you have. Could you include also the lower rpms in your next dyno runs? From what I have seen stock seemed to pull better there compared to other tunes.

That's an interesting statement though, mind showing where you've seen this or presenting the data? I don't recall reading about it before, but definitely good data to have.

Looking at the 87 results it seems there is no gain in the low rpms unless they use 91.

I smell what you stepped in now.

 

A high KCLV means the engine is liking the fuel your using. There is no knock, so it advances timing = more power.
The lower the KCLV, the more knock is being sensed, meaning the ECU is pulling timing = less power.

KFB is the amount of knock being sensed by the knock sensor.
-3 is nominal.
<-3 the ECU is sensing knock = pulls timing = less power
>-3 the ECU loving the gas = adds timing = more power

Disclaimer - I'm just an average Joe with a stock 2018 Limited. Most of the tech stuff discussed here is over my head/understanding but I'm learning bits and pieces. I've run several versions of OV tune including pre 2.0. I've run one of the early versions of KDMAX but not the current, COYOZA before he dropped auto and concentrated on MT, Mooseditty's M+W, and ultimate daily driver since July. This is what I base my observations on.

I flashed Nexus +P yesterday (AJ delivered my files earlier than promised, thank you very much!) and had a full tank of 89 octane. Took a 120 mile trip on East Tennessee rolling hill terrain, not Smokey Mountains but nothing flat. This included a short run on the interstate and mostly 4 lane highway with some stop and go thru small towns. I took it easy and averaged 22mpg (Compared to 21 on DD). AJ said "Nexus is in another league. Smoother, and more refined in EVERY way." Perfect description. On DD there was constant shifting, less than OV 2.0 and smooth, not annoying, but there. Nexus +P did not. It stayed in 6th gear. When I pushed it a little more going uphill to maintain a constant speed the rpms would jump from about 1800 to a little over 2000 (Torque converter?) and it almost felt like a mild turbo effect, the increase in power was noticeable. I had to watch my speed as I found my myself going 65 mph several times with no effort. KTBELL444 said their truck felt lighter, and I experienced this "No effort" feeling, and I was holding it back. There was way more power in reserve, just waiting to be unleashed. Stop and go traffic was easy, smooth, no hard shifts. Tip in was perfect in my opinion. When I gave it a bit more gas I felt the mild "Turbo kick" again. The truck stays in 5th gear until 58-60 mph with plenty of get up and go, when you ask for more in that range it does not have to shift down from 6th. Getting on the interstate was effortless, going up an incline on a short ramp I was able to get to 75 mph to merge. There is no need for me to try Nexus +P premium. +P delivers all I need and gas pricing here is $.30 more for 89 and $.40 above that for 93. I may try a tank of 87 just to see how much of a difference it makes, if any, with the way I normally drive.

I'm impressed to say the least. I've always found AJ to be straight forward and honest, knows what he knows and isn't afraid to ask about what he doesn't in an effort to improve his ability. I trust what he is doing. Couple that with three other guys who bring their experience and knowledge to the table and you have Nexus, a very mature and solid offering. It may be new but there's obviously some previous tune experience behind it.

That jump in RPM is exactly that, the torque converter doing its job. We designed full lock to act almost as another gear. We've found it gives you ample boost where a full on downshift would have been too much. The half lock remains engaged the majority of the time to help maintain good transmission temps.

Be sure to run 91+ octane when running the Nexus +P Premium file. We've ran it on 87, but it's not advised. If you're impressed with +P, I believe you're gonna be grinning ear to ear with +P Premium's extra gitty-up.

 

Do you have an ETA for dyno charts for the +P and +P Premium tunes?

Thank you for the kind words and well worded review! We are by no means done. The engine has more to offer for certain. We'll find it, unleash it, and keep improving this. When we milk the 3rd gen for everything it's got, shit maybe we'll get bored and move on to 2nd gen? We've already got a decent 4runner setup going, as well as GX460. Plans on Tundra and GX470 sometime in the future (I love me a V8), but we need to keep the ADHD at bay and stay the course. Cheers, and let us know what you think of the 87.
