I know. I just don't have the funds right now to warrant or justify the cost of one. They're expensive for SLRs; they're ridiculous for DSLRs.

When i bought my d80 I look at cameras for a few months, I compared the d80 and the xti, the canon's also felt small in my hand and I liked nikons look better. I really don't think either companies bodies are much different glass is a different story, nikon has the edge there.

but James Nachtwey shoot canon and I love his work.

I have owned both Nikon and Canon equipment over the years, currently using a D-200. I honestly believe that the Nikon body can not be beat. Nikon is somewhat
consistent with their lense mounts. I guess it all comes
down to what the camera will be used for and how much you want to spend. :)

I have used Nikons all my life, and they have never let me down. I won't knock a Cannon, some of the relatives have them and make some good shots. I am in the middle of making a rather large purchase and it's all Nikon gear, a new body and a couple of lenses  I'll have to sell my kidney but they say you only need one

Jedi: Over the years I have listened while friends raved about their outlandish vacations. I'm a toy guy (with an understanding wife) I buy the toys I want, knowing that long after the sunburn and hangover is gone, I'll still be playing with my toy with a great big ol' grin.

    I have a Canon xti
I like it a lot and it does pretty good.
With both Canon or Nikon it's the lenses that will produce the keeper shots and most good glass will set you back far more then you pay for the camera body.

Nikon, the optics are better. It is not about the number of megapixels, it is about the quality of the megapixels....

Sony alpha 700, and I can use all of my old Minolta lenses. I always thought that Minolta was a good balance of the lower cost of a Canon, with a few of the nicer features of a Nikon. Now with Minolta having sold their camera business to Sony, you get the added electronic quality of Sony. The only real problem is that there isn't quite as much stuff available for the Sony stuff.

I just got my first camera which is a Nikon S210 Coolpix 8megapixles, it is only 18mm (0.7in) deep so its an ultra sub compact, but from what i have already got from it i love it and it is perfect for me, the pictures look very good, my newest ones are form it, i have only used Kodak other than my nikon, the kodak are good quality i like nikon's software better than kodak's easy share stuff, overall for the pics i will be taking right now its all i need, it was a christmas present so hey

it also determines on the megapixles of your printer if you print them, because even though you can take a 10 megapixle shot but only have a 8 megapixel printer than you can only get a 8 megapixel one

All of the major brands are producing excellent cameras, unless you have an unlimited source of funds it's best to do the research, pick a brand and stick with it. Start with a quality body and upgrade the glass. Some of the large camera stores rent equipment, you can try it out before you buy.

Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
NIKON for sure, the best optics in the camera world.
My dad was the president of SanDisk Japan for a while and we lived over seas. He met the Presidents of both companies. Canon are good as far as motors and speed, but Nikon definetly puts out a better, clearer picture.
while living over there, as well as being a model : ], i was around cameras ALOT.
ive gotten a feel for cameras and i would recommend Nikon over anything
we currently have a D200, D60, D80. multiple lenses and accesories.

I want to get a older higher model DSLR, so I'm thinking 20d or D70s. I've yet to buy into a system, and they both are great cameras, so I will probably buy whichever I can afford first.
