I've had the Nitto Terra Grappler G2's for about 8k miles so far. At first I liked them...aggressive tread, quiet on the highway and they have a good mileage warranty.

However, yesterday I was driving around in the rain and it was downright scary...

Sometimes it felt like I was on ice. I could not get traction when moving from a stop light (not an aggressive driver) and I had to give it a little gas at about 30mph and my trucked started spinning wheels.

What tires should I be on the lookout for? I still want aggressive tread and low road noise.

edit: I should note I am running the 17" TRD PRO 4runner wheels. Current tire size is 265/65/17

I had this same problem with my 2016 Tacoma. I really like the G2 but they slid all over the road here in the PNW in the rain. Very dangerous tire. Took them back to Discount Tire and ran a different tire.

Cooper ST Maxx is what I traded to for at the time. Not sure what your really wanting but they are a much heavier tire. Never lost traction on a wet road with those bad boys though. Great tire.

Yeah that's another good thing about the G2's they are light weight, 37lbs I think, so gas mileage is really good.

They aren't any good if you end up in a ditch or spun out on the highway and T-boned by a semi-truck.
They were great in the summer for me. Cleaned up real nice. Great mileage. Great with some tire shine.
First few times it rained they were all over the road.
Discount Tire told me perhaps I needed to drive on them longer to break them in.
    I said no thanks.

If you want something similar but better you might look into the Toyo A/T II and III. Very similar in my opinion and have heard good things about them.

Interesting, I've been running them for 5 years now with no issue in the wet or snow. First set I had for 45k miles, 2nd set has 10k miles. The only thing I found them bad were in the mud.

Damn, I had these tires on my list too. Thanks for the input and hope you get something better.

First set was 265/70/17, current set is 285/70/17.

We get plenty of rain in coastal VA.

Zero issues with my G2s on my last truck and current one. 60k on 8 different sets.

I've heard people have balancing issues with Falkens, but have never heard anything bad from the Toyo ATs.

Tread pattern and weight of the Toyos are very similar to the G2s.

Here's a comparison, guy likes the Toyo.

Great video thanks! Looks like Toyo doesn't make the AT II they have since moved on to the AT III?

Wildpeaks are the best tires I’ve ever had thus far. The best in the rain I’ve driven with and good in the mud, snow, and soft sand.

That's my understanding unless you find old stock inventory from an online retailer like Amazon.

Discount Tire still has the AT II but my guess is they are being phased out for the III.

Ridge Grapplers here and some of the best tires I've ever owned and I live in a very rainy city. Interesting about the terra grapplers.
