The worst rain tires I've had were 285 Toyo ATs. So far the best are BFG Wranglers. And the colder the weather the worse the Toyo's performed. I even got 2 sets before I realized maybe the tires were the problem.

toyo and nitto are the same company so if the grapplers suck i dont see the toyo a/ts being any different.

Can also say the Michelin LTX AT were some great tires also. Lasted forever. Saw where they stopped putting a Mileage warranty on them though.

I've got right at 5k miles on my G2s and they've been fine for me in the rain. The only time I've lost traction was from a start at a stop sign and I gave it a little too much skinny pedal. I won't say they're the best tire in the rain, but I've never felt like they were dangerous. I almost went with the Cooper Discoverer AT3, since I've heard good things about them. Not sure how much better they would be in the rain though.

They probably are, Michelins are amazing but Falken are extremely affordable and very high quality from my experience making it a better pick in general imo unless money is no object.

Friends don’t let friends drive stock
I have same problem as OP have them on for about 6-8k miles. Whenever it rain it feel like I am driving on ice. I don’t have a heavy foot at all. It set at 38 psi I wonder if that why

You could try a lower psi but tbh offroad tires are never very good in rain. Mud tires are the really fun ones. Sheer terror on the freeway.

I have a little over 5k miles on my G2 and haven't had any issues with them in the rain. Like OP I have the TRD SEMA wheels and I'm running 265/65/17.

    All stock
    Update:

Went to discount tire yesterday. They were willing to buy back my tires for 85% of what I paid, however the sales person was convinced it did not matter which AT tires I used. He said they are all bad in the rain and said the G2's were a good all around tire, which is why I bought them. The Toyo's won't be in stock until Jan 2021.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
Do you have any weight in the back ? A canopy or other stuff? I have a canopy on the back so maybe the extra weight helps, and I run 35 in the front and 30 in the back but I've never had an issue driving in the rain. Trucks with nothing in the back are super light, I'd run a low pressure back there.
I'm still getting 18 mpg comb.

Shit I hope they do a deal like that for me when I have to replace my 17s with 16s. Get some Michelins instead.

I may try them again some day. I had an Access Cab with a MT and there are lots of hills where I live. Combine that with PNW rain and wet roads it seemed like no matter how I babied the clutch the back tires just didn't want to grip the road in certain situations.

Falken Wildpeak ATW3 are the best all around tire ive ever bought. I was able to do 80mph in the rain on the highway and the tires stayed planted as if it were dry roads. I have about 50,000 miles on them now and they worn evenly, still drive smooth, and make no road noise. Theyre great offroad too. The best part is theyre cheaper than other brands depending on the tire size you buy.

I had a set of Terra Grapplers G2’s in 265/70r17 for 15,000 miles, not one issue. I liked them so much, just got a set of 285/70r17 in the exact same tire!
