How did this become a cali bash forum. The way I look at it just take care of your vehicle. If it bothers you so much move to a state where there are vehicle inspections.

Stupid people will be stupid people. Atleast the LAW will decide that their piece of crap vehicle will stay off the road. Sure - they can drive it around illegally. Eventually they will get caught.

the law can still decide that without inspections...it happens down here...theres plenty of vehicle codes concerning safe equipment etc...and an officer can cite you for it...or even not allow that vehicle back on the road...but laws dont stop people from doing things...

case in point...i stopped a guy the other day for driving with no license plate...not even a dealer tag...after a DMV check...it turned out his license was suspended...since 1984...for various reasons (some being DUI)...

that didnt stop him from driving...

inspections or not...it wont keep people from operating unsafe vehicles on the road

True, people will circumvent the law, but a annual safety inspection can be a proactive way to correct these deficiencies before an incident takes place.

Yeah..... I can agree with all of that.

    What's the point?

Take away inspections and there's EVEN MORE reasons for those stupid, cheap, and lazy people to drive a vehicle that's not safe for the for the roads and even more chances for them to make asses of themselves (and/or hurt people).

Inspections are for safety. Safety for everyone. Why do people have to whine & cry about inspections? Suck it up.

not just trying to bash cali. just my point of view from places ive lived in for mor than 2 years. and you see that the salt rots the shit outta cars in the northeast, all the more reason for poeple in the ne to have inspections. with the extreme weather in the northeast it just makes sense to inspect vehicles every year because most people dont know anything about cars. they just start it and drive. alot of people wear their brakes down to the metal and then some. out here in cali i bought a 1979 chevy that still had paint on the frame!!! being from upstate ny thats just unheard of. cars last so much longer without salt and wear 1/10th as fast. im just stating inspections are not a bad idea and should be required in the northeast just my .02

I would vote for that one all day long!

Most are, but not the issue in question.

Criminals will always be criminals. It's like the saying "Locks only keep honest people out". I was under the impression that the inspections only helped people who wanted to be legal/safe keep their vehicles legal/safe while the scumbags circumvented the law anyway or just bought stickers from unregulated or blackmarket sources.

    Exactly my opinion.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
They are already here. It is quite common for people to switch tires with someone to pass inspection, then switch back after the inspection.

No worries. I just hate the smog laws out here. They are dumb. Just because my car doesnt pass your smog check doesnt mean its safe. I guess Im one of the few that knows how to work on a car. An inspection is just a waste of money for me. For the other guy that doesnt work on them then I guess he needs it. You got my vote. lol

    Problem solved...

Make it so that a police officer has to check your car with an SAE mechanic every morning before anyone leaves their home.

This way the Police Officer's uniion gets their money and Vito gets his money problem solved.

Less cars on the road. Fewer people gainfully employed so that the state will qualify for federal funds. Other states that tax their people less and allow for the commerce system to work - this allows the federal govenment to take the money (increase in social value) that is then able to be redistributed to the 'less fortunate' states.

    God bless America

I started this for peoples opinions regarding safety. It has no political undertones. Driving a vehicle is NOT a constitutional right as I was told when I was given my license when I was 16 many many years ago by our states DMV.

I mainly wanted to hear what others from around the country had experienced if this has happened to them and state my opinions of what I think this move may impact. I think at this point 28 states do not have mechanical inspections.

Let's keep the political opinions where they belong.............
