Doesnt the off road operate as a LSD when ATRAC isnt turned on? I remember the threads on turning the traction/stability control on seemed to indicate so.

OP I entered the zip for Buffalo and OR is an option....did you by chance select a long bed? That would make OR not show up.

Are you guys not reading his post? It says how he can't build a TRD Off-Road Tacoma in his area. I just tried as well using zip code 14226 (Buffalo, NY) and there is no trim package for the TRD Off-Road double cab, the access cab IS available with the Off-Road package. Kind of strange.

Not exactly, in Low Range (where A-TRAC operates), there is NO traction control at all... except with A-TRAC turned on.

All other 4x4 Tacomas haven't any traction assist in low range.

The Off Road also has the rear locker.

All Tacomas do have TRAC in H2 and TRAC without engine regulation in H4... on all tires. AUTO LSD is H2 tracion control without engine regulation.

It is in L4 that A-TRAC operates on all 4... it is a firmer, nearly no slip system.

I used Concord, NH, and I can select 2012 Double Cab, 4x4, short bed, 4.0L, auto, with Off Road no problem. Not sure which zips he used in NH, but they work for me. You cannot get the 6 spd manual in this config, only the automatic.

I just tried it for Boston, MA and also couldn't select a double cab TRD Off-Road package. There is an access cab Off-Road package though. I don't get it.

AH. I figured it out, you have to select 5 speed automatic for the transmission. There is no 6 speed manual TRD Off-Road package, apparently. At least not in the Northeast.

I just figured that out. ;)

I can build a 6 speed manual TRD Off-Road here in Portland though. Strange indeed.

interestingly; they do limit several options though..ie double cabs only avail in 4x4

They rarely sell PreRunners up North, that's why you're only getting the 4x4 option.

OP as many have said there are Off Roads on dealer lots here in the Northeast, they are on lots here in VT and also down in NH & MA.
    Your dealer is

I agree. They were probably just feeding him BS to try to make an immediate sale on a Sport or something since they didn't have any Off-Roads in stock. Still is weird though how there's not a 6 speed manual Off-Road option in the Northeast. :p

I bought a 2012 TRD Offroad Taco from a dealer in Massachusetts in Dec. but it was the only one I could find during 2 months of comparing deals. All of the dealer I talked with said they could get them in but it seemed that all they had on the lots were the Sport model.

I want the 2012 6 speed manual double cab TRD Off Road. Can't get the option to build it on the toyota website (zip code: 14830) and my dealer said they are not building them for the New York.

I can get the TRD Sport option but hate the fake hood scoop look.

You could always get the Sport and trade hoods with somebody.

Dude don't get bent over the offroad package...it is just marketing BS. I agree Toyota does do weird stuff at times...eg, I could not find a single 4x4 Tundra in Socal that didn't have flex fuel so I had to have a broker scour the State for one until he found one shipping in from Texas.

Anyways, getting back to the TRD package, you will soon enough be wanting a lift and reading the suspension forum on here so you'll throw away all the TRD parts (shocks, wheels, crappy stock BFG fails, etc). Just get it vanilla and save yourself some $$ and build up your truck the way you want it. Thats what I did with my Tundra and it saved me about $2800.
