i don't know if this is the same for everybody else but my tacoma doesn't have a clock in it. most cars and truck usually have them. but today when i was taking apart my dash i noticed a spot right beside the key hole where there was wires and a plug attached to the plastic. the area it was attached to the back of was shaped like a rectangle. is this where the clock is supposed to be? and if so could i buy an oem tacoma clock and put it in?

Yeah, that's where the clock is supposed to be, not sure if there is some sort of wiring harness back there already for you to plug it in to though.

You have a 96, so yes you can put a clock there and still be able to see it. I had an 04 gen. 1 tacoma and they had changed the steering wheel design, and I could not see the clock through the wheel in that location.

As far as finding the clock. I'd check your local junkyards, I *think* it is that same clock used in the 90's 4 runners or camrys as well. I'd suspect that it is porbably $100 from the dealer.

the psotion seems a little awkward for a clock to be in. i don't think i'm goin to get one, i just duct taped a small clock to my dash. i don't even think a passenger could see the clock in the position its supposed to be in. also, the stock clocks are running for around $35-$70. my clock i used costs $5 and still tells the same time.

Clocks are an option for Toyota from what they told me, my 96 has one but I had a 94 that didn't.

I didn’t have a clock in my recently acquired 96 and really wanted one. I found one at the local Toyota junkyard. I made sure to get the connector and enough wire with it to splice. I planned on a 3 hour project to install it today.
When I removed the panel, the one without the clock, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find the clock wires and connector were there and attached to the back of the panel where the clock would be. WOW.
Plugged the connector into my newly acquired clock and it work great. Put everything back together and was done in a half hour.

Thanks to whoever at Toyota made the decision to have that as part of the wire harness even if the truck did not come with a clock. Must be a dealer install option and they were making it easier. Either way, it made my day.

never knew there was a connector back there. I may look for a clock now. I also just bought a head unit with time display on it and now use that.

This is a better clock set-up.

I bought the VDO clock and the housing on-line. Mixed some enamel paint to match and rolled it on with a sponge roller. Illuminated to boot!

I didn't have one on my 98 when I got it, but I picked one up from the stealership (wasn't tooo bad) and it was a VERY easy install. Just my 2c.
