I have a 2011 Tacoma Base 4x4 auto. It wasn't pre-wired for cruise, so I bought and installed the Rostra 250-1836 kit.

The cruise works fine, but there is no dash light indicating on/off even though I double checked the green(dash light) wire.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something, or if all non pre-wired vehicles simply do not have the illuminated cruise icon in the dash?

It could be your aftermarket cruise control doesnt send the proper signal to illuminate the light. These companies do their best to make a one size fits all unit but things slip by.

You are getting the green "cruise" light but not the set light when you actually turn it on and off correct? I don't think it has that icon.

Nope, not even the green cruise light. Nothing at all on the dash.

Does the light come in when you turn they key to start it?

If not, then you won't have it. If so, then your cruise isn't 100% compatible.

No, it doesn't. And that was something I tried a few times....turning the ignition to ON and noticing the lights that lit up. The cruise light was nowhere to be seen.

Weird. Wouldn't have ever guessed the clusters were different.

That is where it is located. I just checked it doesn't come on with the ignition on mine when you just turn the key before you start. I'd hit that spot with a flashlight to see if you have it.

Weird. My 09 base has the light. But it also had the camera in the tailgate, which I understand some bases don't have as well.

Excellent tip! I did just that and could see the outline/shadow of the CRUISE light location. Is there no bulb or LED behind it on Base models, or do I need to run an extra wire between the connectors in order to get illumination? Weird deal...

No way did the leave that bulb out on the base model (which is what I have), that would cost more than it's worth. The weird thing is I also have that same exact rostra on my base model.

Did your airbag have a grounding wire? If so did you reconnect it? If not did you use the grounding wire that was attached to the switch? Skip to 3:00 on the video below to see what I am talking about. That is the only thing I can think of besides a bad connection in the harness that you plug in.

OK, so I took out the gauge cluster and took it apart.

There is a LED behind the CRUISE spot. I did hook up the ground wire that was attached to the Rostra switch.

I'm at a loss. I have no idea why that light isn't working.

Did your airbag itself have a ground wire? If it does you don't need the ground wire coming off the switch. It uses the one through the airbag through the wire harness that you plug in.

I just tried that with no luck. I'm going to have to triple check my wiring because isn't making sense

Is there a way to directly test the LED for functionality, current, etc. being I have the cluster all disassembled ?

This is a total guess, but I'll throw it out there since nobody is chiming in. Can you fit the prongs for one of those electric current testers in there? If not, you could always go get another bulb to try that. I doubt the bulb itself is the issue since it has never been used, but it is possible.
