garage door opener is not able to communicate because the software and hardware can't work together for newer vehicles...had this problem with my 2008 Lexus GS350.....Had to get chamberlain to send me the new sending unit add-on....

Your 25 yr old system isn’t a rolling code system Maybe. Does it still have the dip switches?

    Edit: just adding tips

Hmlnk is funny and I haven’t fully understood it and I work on them. But if it doesn’t work you need the homelink repeater and that will be your master key. Also setting up homelink is simple so long as you follow instructions exactly. You have to get a successful link between your homelink and remote, if not you’ll never be able to move onto the next step. And vehicle needs to be ignition on or running iirc

All I know is homelink v5 worked right away on my LiftMaster 8550w (yellow learn) and I doubt I’ll have any problems linking up to the soon to be installed 8500w (also yellow learn)

    Yep and thanks. :)

Theres room for factory switches on some models, just didn't want to spend $50 and a cover plate, did it for $8 instead

Wasn't sure if my 19 off road would have homelink but it did. Have premium and tech packages.

Took seconds to program. Super convenient although not sure what I do with my old remotes now!

I found a thread on here that talks about removing the overhead panel and installing one so that’s what I did I believe overall I spent 20-30 bucks EF9B4B33-3626-40B6-A319-37E44D29B9DE.jpg

I have a frameless mirror in both my Audi’s and since I wanted a garage door opener mod, I decided to do this. Two birds one stone type of thing.

The install was pretty straight forward as far as mounting, but the wiring isn’t plug and play. None the less, it wasn’t rocket science.

I went out and installed homelink. Got pissed off because it wouldn’t open my garage door. After about 30 min on the line with tech support, they said I needed to by a automatic garage door opener for my garage. So $300 dollars later I get that hooked up. Then was told I needed to installed electric in my garage to power it. Screw you homelink!!!

It's like the Apple fanboys. When iPhone didn't have notifications, they laughed at Samsung/Android claiming it's a stupid unneeded feature.

When Apple came back with IOS9 with notifications, apple fanboys claim it's the greatest feature ever!!

    :).

i read this and took info from a few different people and did my own way (some what ), i tapped power from the lighter plug not the fuse box and used a diode as to not turn on the reverse lights.
bigger problem was finding the right size wire that is small that i ran up the side pillar and finding a switch i liked, how bad is dependent on how well you want to cut some wires..
    good luck

Yeah, I've had that happen while at a trailhead for an overnight backpacking trip. They broke my window, took my documents with my address, rummaged through the console, and left the visors down (and didn't touch anything else of value in the truck). Thankfully I had taken my garage door opener out. When I reported it, the cops in the mountain town said it happens all the time. Thieves go up after dark assuming that whatever cars are left in the parking lot won't be home till the next day so they have all night to go to your house. I lived in a really safe/quiet neighborhood at the time and had roommates who were home so nothing happened at the house that night. But my neighbor's car was broken into that same night and his computer and several other things were stolen. (Could have been a coincidence).

Leaving a garage door opener on the visor, when almost everyone has their address/insurance/registration in the glovebox is almost like leaving a key on your dash with a post-it note that has your home address. The cop told me never to leave a garage door opener or anything with a home address in the vehicle when at a trailhead.

I have a harder time envisioning someone ripping off a rearview mirror to try to gain access to your garage... but who knows.
