So I brought my truck in for its second oil change at 5k. After reading some threads on vibration concerns (which I didn't have) I decided to get a head of the ball and requested that EVERY grease zerk get a hit of grease.

Got my truck back, service writer goes over the toyota care checklist and I'm happy with it all. He didn't say anything about greasing the truck so I asked how it went. To both of our surprise, he said they're no grease zerks on the truck at all. I instantly questioned the quality of service at that dealership.. I called bullshit all the way home.

When I got back to the house, I crawled my happy ass under the truck. See where this is going? You guessed it.. NOT ONE GREASE ZERKS TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE. I mean, not one.

Just wanted to share with you guys, I haven't seen it covered before and frankly I'm not sure how I feel about it.. lol. On one hand I think it's great that every thing is nice and sealed up, on the other not having "serviceable items" on moving components makes me scratch my head. Makes me wonder what Toyota is up to. Time will tell.

It's been covered. Last two, were / are on the front propeller shaft. Are those too, gone on the '19?

The 16's had them and I think some of the 17's. I greased all 5 of mine last week. I'm happy that all of my u-joints are serviceable but there isn't a zerk on the slip yoke which bothers me.

I would guess the front driveshaft still has them, they are just kinda hidden.

What Toyota is up to? How about the consumer? Nobody takes care of shit anymore and when they do the just fuck it up so Toyota just greased it and sealed it.

How does that affect the longevity of those components I'm wondering? By making them non serviceable, you could be cutting their life span in half. Which could be what they want (??) What do you think?

Same lifespan as if someone regularly serviced it correctly. I'm surprised they haven't sealed the engine yet. You might be competent but there are ten others that just screw it up.

I have actually been expecting something like that to come along, like a removable box with all the oil in it, would be fast oil changes as it would be self contained with the correct amount in it, plus the old would be easily recycled.

Don't worry. If you keep it long enough for u-joint replacement. The new parts will have zerks.

Spicer / eaton have been on the push for non serviceable u joints for the last 20 years . Nothing new here . If and when I replace mine in a few years ,you can bet I’ll be using factory OEM parts . Now if I were running serious trails or muddling with my truck , that would be a different story . I’d be more concerned with the factory diff breathers than the u joints .
