Use a little flat head screwdriver and get up under the bottom edge of the block and wiggle it a little, than go to the top and do the same. Then you should be able to just grab it. Maybe on the sides also if that helps to.( its kinda long, so don't tilt it to much in either direction)

Couple of questions for you folks since you've actually done this:

    1) Does the placement of the remote matter (eg if it's down by your feet is the signal blocked by the metal frame, etc)
    2) Does the orientation matter (I know this is probably dependent on which remote I get and it's antenna, but thought I'd ask in case there was another green-light/red-light tidbit which I knew nothing about).
    3) To prevent potential shorts and make it dust/water tight (since people are breaking the boards out of their case, and especially if you mount on the other side of the firewall due to (1)) has anyone tried plasti-dip or something similar?

The rolling code part, that's what I'm missing. When you guys get these things off ebay make sure they aren't fixed code and that the remote supports your IC.

Now I'm spamming this thread. I'll shut up for a while.

No, the placement does not matter. The one I use now is down below. There's no braking the board out, it falls out. The way I made it , there is no sealing issue. It would be the same as any other remote just sitting there

The frequency style I needed, just happened to be $12. If the two dollar one works for you and suits your needs, that's fine. Is $10 really the question, we are driving around $40,000 truck after all.

Nope, $10 is nothing compared to the truck. It's just my inner-cheapness coming out. I'd gladly pay an extra $10 for a product that works.

    same here on both :D

I going to try your ebay link for 2 bucks. I see no light on the mechanism itself, only on the remote
and that light is red. So I'm not sure what I need.

Edit: after a closer look, US is not free, it's another 2 bucks.

Look at the back of your remote, there may be a sticker with your frequency number on it

That's what my previous post states, most of the backing/sticker is long gone, it's 20
years old. From the few numbers I could make out they matched up so fo 12 bucks I went for it.

For those that are interested... I have an issue (when it's hot and dry outside) where the range on my sunvisor clippy remote goes to crap. So I end up pushing it a few times as I get closer and closer to my garage until it works. Not a big deal, but annoying. So since I'm doing a mod for this truck, thought I'd make a little circuit to fix this problem. Basically this will sit between the custom mounted 'open' button (what everyone's showing as attached to the remote body itself) and the remote. When I press the open button this circuit will essentially latch it open for 5-7 seconds (haven't decided how long I want it open yet). causes a slight drain on the battery, but shouldn't be a big deal.
