I'm disappointed about this. My truck is a manual AC TRD Off Road. I won't be in the market for a new one for many years, though, so maybe Toyota will offer it again by the time I'm ready for my next vehicle.

If not, I might get another Wrangler. I love my Taco, and I still love my old Jeep. I would be very happy with either one. No sense worrying about it now, though. I expect to get at least ten more years out of my truck.

The big selling point of the new Off Road Tacoma is the crawl control. They have been making a big deal out if it. To incorporate that in a manual transmission, is probably more then a Toyota wanted to invest. There seems little sense in having a crawl control that takes the " thinking" out of off reading, then sticking in a manual when gear changing is a huge part of it. If you want a manual, just get the SR5 and go at it and add an after market locker.

Interesting that they don't make these anymore. Guess I better hang onto mine since it's now a "classic"! :p

Access Cab TRD Off Road Manual is what I would want also, seems silly that they would not offer it...

Seems silly they WOULD offer a manual with the off road package. You eliminate the many benefits of crawl control. The transmission on the new models MUST be controlled by the computer. The crawl control is like cruise control for off road. Have you ever driven a manual transmission with cruise control. It's quite ineffective at lower speeds or hilly terrain where gear shifting is needed. So it you want a manual, get something without the off road package. I am struggling to understand why this keeps getting asked ?

Seems retarded that they wouldn't offer it because "off-road" but at the same time it makes sense. They are pushing the crawl control in the OR model which is designed to make an automatic less sucky off road. It gives it all the benefits of manual but without the clutch and gear shifting. They wouldn't put a manual in an OR then because they can't offer the crawl control. I see why Toyota is doing it, but I still think it is ABSOLUTELY ONE HUNDRED PERCENT STUPID!

I have no interest in crawl control, but I would want a rear locker.

@cgalloni Manual is only available on 4x4 Models, Period. The SR5 DC is only available in a AT.... stupid things Toyota is doing is beyond me. Seems like the 4x4 AC TRD OR would follow over in the manual trim from the 15'. Not like anything has changed structurally to accommodate the option, other than profitability... seems like that TRD OR AC Manual trim would sell more in that form than the TRD Sport AC Manual.

Agree, this is braindead, and goes contrary to Toyota claim they keep doing manual because off-road enthusiasts are asking for it.

Personally I am looking to buy a DCSB OR, so I am happy it is available in manual but would be even happier if the JBL audio option was available. It seems they should realize by now that manuals are premium not a budget option anymore?

Like I wanted a manual 4 Runner and had to settle for the auto. The manual market is shrinking and even more so when we hand over systems to the computer. We have given over the transmission to computer as much to meet EPA mileage standards as anything and that extra one or two mpgs are an important consideration.

They should just offer any configuration.

Let the customer choose if they want MT/Atrac or AT/Crawl.

Why limit the selection based on cab length? THAT seems silly.

Or alternatively, offer a hydro/mechanical clutch like bmw did in 1999.

^^^^ for the purpose of facilitating crawl with MT that is....
