That thing you all call isn't thicker paint it's body filler sprayed in a mist to make it look like rock guard it protects the sheet metal look under your truck and there should be white body filler under it.

I am experiencing this now with my 2015, the rock guard will eventually chip. I am having a clear bra (suntek) but on over the rock guard portion when it goes in for winter prep next week.

What does winter prep involve? I'm not trolling, we just don't have winter here

Paint correction (ironx and polish) and then wax or sealant, my guy is using ceramic pro this time (has a 2 year guarantee) stuff is really cool. Winters destroy paint and exposed metal.

I just checked to 2016 TRD Sport - sure does look like a thick COATING of clear coat. It's on the ROCKER panels not the lower door skin. Just sayin....

Yes the body filler is thicker down there but it's painted just like the rest of the truck.

Its called rock guard, its a thicker textured paint. Most trucks have it.

Sales manager showed me a slight extension sticking out on bottom of rear fender that Toyota claims will protect fender from rocks and mud slinging up // did not look very protective to me - ordered mine from factory with mud flaps // if not available at factory - certainly none available from dealer - this may be mean another month delay - am cancelling mud flaps today - amazing - how unprepared Toyota is for this roll out they announced months and months ago.

There was a thread recently talking about muds flaps vs no mud flaps. Quite the discussion. As someone who has replaced two windshields and one motorcycle visor (which probably saved my life), if you drive on public roads with no mud flaps ... :censored:
