Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
you dont want to know how much i deal with this at work. the writers are the worst. Some techs REALLY shouldnt be touching wrenches. and parts does order the wrong part ALOT.

i personally cant wait to get out of the dealer game because its a joke. seriously. Theres a few good guys in the game. but we leave when we can. They take better care of the shit employees than the good!

(there are ofcourse exceptions to this though. there are MANY good dealers out there. you just have to find them. its just like anything else.)

find mom and pop owned dealers (rare out here) once we were bought out by a corporation shit went downhill fast.

"Have impact wrench set to max, whoops, wrong direction, pop threads off frame nut, tell no one, cross thread one of the remaining bolts and nuts, tighten to 250 ft lbs.''

Brag about doing job in 1/3 the book time, claim innocence about damaged nuts and bolts, ''they was like that when it came in.''

There should be 2 weeks dedicated to new mechanics teaching then how to use an impact wrench properly and a hard fail if they can't learn to start bolts by hand first and use the appropriate setting. The next course should be the proper use of a torque wrench.

All good. I think it’s most everyone’s view that they didn’t remove old gasket.

    Which old gasket?

    Not necessarily a consensus view.

I didn’t take a poll but I’m assuming either the large o-ring on housing or crush gasket on drain plug

I was thinking they left the small one off the filter plug.

Me as a shop foreman after hearing impact wrench under an oil change truck: "Did you use an impact on that drain plug?" IR 500 ft lb impact on floor with plug sized socket on it.

    Tech: "Nope"

Me: DON'T do that ever again.

I think the moral of this story is START LEARNING HOW TO DO WORK ON YOUR OWN VEHICLE IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY.

Obviously some work will require equipment you don’t have laying around in your garage, but finding a more trustworthy shop is better than a shitty dealer in those cases.

The kids don't want to work these days. I'm not disrespecting those who are, but in general, we're experiencing a labor problem in anything automotive. The kids we hired at our shop never stayed longer than 6 months. The old days you had to do spill and fills for a year or more before we thought about moving you into a junior tech doing brakes and suspension. Mid level techs did 5 years of grunt work to get there. The 6 month mark rolls around, poof, they're gone.

Everyone talks about finding a "trustworthy" shop, but never mentions all the bullshit trial and error you have to go through to get one. Back when I was way young and didn't know the first thing about wrenching, or cars in general I got some bullshit spiel about the negative battery cable being bad on my Volkswagon and how it "Can be very difficult to install." $275 later I had a new cable and didn't think much of it... until I learned a thing or 10 and realized how stupidly easy that job should have been. Couldn't believe it. And the owner of that shop was a family friend too! Never took my car there again.

This is one of the maintenance items that won’t be missed when society eventually switches to BEV’s. Well look back 30 years from now and share stories at how greasy, oily, dirty, polluting and noisy ICE vehicles were.

No ones saying it’s easy 24/7. All I said was the dealer is POS that shouldn’t be trusted considering $10/hour techs are (clearly by this thread) forgetting simple things doing damage to $35,000+ trucks...

I mean the OP also has all of TW to consult and ask questions. This forum has taught me SOOOOOO damn much about my truck I had no clue about. Utilize it.

I don't think that one would have much impact since you have to shove that plastic drain tube piece up in order to drain the filter. I was thinking the large Canister O Ring is what they probably forgot .

I'd rather shove pencils in my eyes than drive an EV. Screw that. I'll own a gasser till I die.
