No Throttle Response Randomly

Ok. I must have missed that about the functions before and after Maf Cal.

I don't have any clips for my sensors. As well as none for the 4wd plugs which aren't plugged in. Man I wished you lived closer. This is bugging the crap out of me.

Also adding to it....my truck always smells like gas while driving...

 

thats not good. Take some pics of the engine bay...detailed pics....maybe one of us can spot something wrong

I knew a guy who kept complaining of the faintest gasoline smell. Only after it had been running. Never when off. There ended up being the slightest knick in the #6 cylinder fuel rail injector bung.

Very hard to find and diagnose. I ended up swapping out a slightly larger O-ring from one of my RC Engineering injectors. Short of replacing the fuel rail, it worked.

Cleaned the throttle body and used MAF Sensor Cleaner on all the connections around the throttle body and maf. Truck has better throttle response forsure!

Also the o2 sensors for the headers are super dirty, should i spray those connectors off as well?

 

That is a simple fix and good start! Now the question is, does it fix it?

Yup. I remember you mentioning that you filter was clean. How long ago had you cleaned it? Prior to this issue.

Also, not sure if aFe makes a hydrophobic filter for their filters, but if they do, that would be a layer of protection for the filter, against the larger particles, while off-roading in really dusty areas. Which will in turn help keep the other parts cleaner longer.

 

Well this issue has been happening for 2 years now, literally once every couple of months. I always make sure the filter is clean. I've been thinking about switching to the new style TRD. Yes i know its not as free flowing, but might be better for me offroad?

 

Don't swap. That is a poor design by K&N. Causes MAF sensor turbulence issues. Just add a pre-filter if you can. Old rally cross trick. Except they used panty hose. Way back in the day before pre-filters.

Correct, but the TRD/aFe is a large filter. So it would need to be able to fit over. You would need to take a measurement and find out if there is one that fits.

 

I'm pretty sure afe makes one, i'll see if i can track one down tomorrow.

I '02 cummins would dead pedal at times before I replaced my injection pump. I don't know if that could be an issue on a Tacoma. I don't know squat about gas burners
