    Hi guys,

I've just installed a 2.5" front lift and 1.5" rear lift on m'y Tacoma. Got the alignment done and since then, I can hear a strange noise at very low speed (stop and go trafic speed) coming from the front. Its a hum that happens at every wheel turn, like a cycle and I can feel some vibration through my feet at the same time as the noise.

The noise is almost unoticeable at higher speed but sounds similar to erratic tire noise.

Also, everytime I get out of the truck, I get a static shock when closing the door.

I'm leaning toward a cv joint problem but I don't know how I would confirm that?

    Thanks!

Notorious Front Differential Needle Bearing is what this sounds like.

Lots of threads and posts on TacomaWorld about this issue.

Put the truck in 4WD. If the noise stops then it's your Needle Bearing. Typically only presents itself between 25-40mph. There's a fix made by a company called East Coast Gear Supply. Or you can go to Toyota and ask for the TSB repair (which may fix it temporarily).

I've tried putting it in 4wd, but I can't fully confirm that the noise goes away. Like I said, the noise is very slight as soon as I gain a bit of speed (10mph or more) Past that, tire noise and road noise take over. The time its the most obvious is going very slow, like 1 tire turn per second.

I also noticed that when I reverse with the wheels turned all the way left of right, I get a kind of rubbing sound similar to a tire rubbing, but I don't see the tires being anywhere close to rubbing. Also, I doesn't happen when going forward with the wheels fully turned...

I'm not saying my needle bearing is fine, but I get some different symptoms compared to the needle bearing threads I've read.

    Thanks a lot guys!

This is exactly what the needle bearing noise will sound/feel like. Putting it in 4 wheel drive won't always make it go away completely, but it does quiet it down where its harder to hear/feel.
