So I went to this new gas station they just build yesterday and saw that they had non ethanol gas. It was .30 cents more. I filled up with it and am trying to see if I get better mpgs. Anyone running this on the regular and notice any gains. I like the peace of mind of it. I never seen it before so I thought it was a big. It was 2.80 a gallon. Regular in my town is at 3.19, but I always travel to where this station is so its still savings for me. Normal 87 was 2.50 at this place.

Yes. It will take a few tanks to see the difference. It bumps about 1-2 mpg per trip to the better. The best so far has been 24.8 mpg. I also have redline SI 1 additive to keep any gunk down, it acts like top tier fuel, minus the ethanol crap. It's all I use, except if out of town.

I played with 0-e in a little race prepped street legal car I had a few times. One that I'd recorded every drop of fuel over a number of years, including driving conditions for each tank.

The MPG would rise about 10-12%, and it was slightly perkier.

From a $ standpoint, there was no payback; it cost more than the MPG offset. So yea, it was actually a $ loser.

In other news, octane wise, there's no advantage to running a higher level than the book calls for.

Ethanol fuel has been known to have caused problems in small engines. I would recommend buying gas there for your lawn mower, etc.

Very basically, ethanol will reduce mpg but increase power. There are tons of bad side effects and political wrong doings to the corn based shit that's mandated on most of the US. But on the whole it's not worth using ethanol free gas on any car/truck made in the last ~10 years that's used as a daily driver. Motorbikes, lawn equipment any car that may sit for weeks at a time is a completely different story.
BTW, you lucky bastard being able to buy ethanol free gas, and at only 30c more.

I wonder if I should keep on using it. I kinda think that 10 year point is a good one. They now know and make the engines for the shity gas. They probly will run just as good. I know a lot of dirt bikes and stuff had problems with the ethanol.

I pay about .20 more for ethanol free.......worth it to me. Plus, my truck is not a daily driver, so I don't want the worry of ethanol gas separation in between fill ups.

I run Alchohol/Ethanol free whenever possible. I ran it for a long time calculating every drop of gas and figured out that in my Silverado, even though it costs more to fill up, I could go farther and if you broke down cost per mile it was very close to 87 octane 15% corn syrup cost.

    Want power? use aviation fuel!.
Have you ever seen a Cessna or Piper using regular car gas? Would not fly good at all and it may loose power in altitude.
Aviation fuel is the old leaded gas type. I have a PPL and once used aviation fuel in a Mustang...almost burned the cat but it had lots of more power.

Agreed! The non E is good for the gas powered lawn equipment that doesn't run on a regular basis . The vehicle we are driving was designed to run at a higher level of E based fuel so don't worry be happy or OCD and hunt for a non E fuel lol. I average 22 mpg on the mandatory 10% E available at 99% of the fueling stations.

My girlfriend has an 06 mini cooper that takes premium only. I found a gas station that sells e free premium at 20 cents cheaper than normal 10% e premium at other places, which I thought was strange, and I swear that car gets about 6mpg better, it's ridiculous.

i went out today, and i def feel a difference with the non e fuel, my mpgs have been steady 20.1. I have not got that normally since i stared driving the truck. For now i will keep running this fuel. regular is same price at most places, so if i go to this one place, its really not more money. I live at high elvation so my mpgs suffer a little jfy

Another lucky one with non-ethanol close by. My truck definetly likes it,but mpg increase vs cost math isn't there so I don't run it all the time, I mostly run top tier. I run it in all my yard equipment, makes a big difference. If you're running a 23HP ZTR & get slight power increase, you can feel it mowing. Wish they'd quit shoving that ethanol at us

Any of these stations near you? They have a map feature too.

I run pure gas in all my small engine equipment. Haven't tried it in the Taco due to the increased cost and my high mileage driving. We have a station in the town we do our grocery shopping in, so every so often when my wife goes out I tag along to fill the fuel cans. If the station was in my hometown I might consider trying to run it for a week (roughly 3 tanks of fuel a week) to see if it made a worthy improvement in MPG for the cost. Totally worth the money to save small engines where the fuel sits in them for a while.

Some say it makes a difference and others have reported it does not. It will almost certainly make a difference to your wallet. Whether performance and fuel economy difference is discernable is up for debate.

All you can do is try it. I rarely run it anymore as I only put 5 miles a day on my daily driver but when I was driving 100+ miles a day round trip I passed a station that sold it. Even though it was something like $.15 per gallon more I had enough of a mileage per tank increase that it was almost dead even in cost per mile.

Some reason it seems that I was able to go 40-50 miles farther before fill up.

Yep, used to race gokarts back in the day. We used 5hp briggs and stroke them out and run methanol through them to get 15<hp. The problem is usually in the carburetor. There's a small rubber diaphragm that usually gets eaten by any fuel (gas, methanol, ethanol).
Had to tear those engines apart almost every week.
