I want to temporarily relocate my backup camera. Ideally I want to unplug it from the tailgate, leave the camera where it is and plug in another on mounted somewhere else.

Has anyone tried using an aftermarket camera with the factory wiring?

Did exactly that. OEM stays in the tailgate, unplug it, put in the dust cap, plug in the aftermarket that's on my swing out tire carrier. I think everyone here uses the Natika camera.
