:confused:does this mean that my engine would suffer no damage if timing belt broke? Or could damage still result with this 3.4 non-interference motor.

A mechanic keeps telling me that I need to replace it or my motor could get torn up badly if it breaks.

If your timing belt breaks...then you'll be left stranded where ever you are...Your engine will not run...so it's better to get it changed...I changed mine at 165K when I purchased my vehicle because I couldn't find any record of it ever being done...I have a book of all the service receipts from day of purchase...I also did the Water pump...T-stat..belts and fluids at the same time...

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The enigne is going to shut down pretty quick. The only damage that may occur is the plastic covers over the belt could break.

I had the belt on my 02 break on me. Didn't affect the pistons or valves at all. But stood as a hell of a mess to clean up. Fixed it all up and runs good as new.

    Welcome to TW Jesse.

Can you define "hell of a mess"? What kind of clean up was involved?

Thanks for the reply's everybody. :)

I think I'll start putting a little money to the side for the job. I'll get the water pump and all pulley's done at the same time with this mechanics quote. He gave me what I think is a good price of 575.00. My truck now is at 188,000 and the timing belt was last done at 74,000. I found a sticker next to the air intake with info on last timing belt replacement.
I feel a bit better now that I asked you guys about this, and in addition to that, I have recently signed up for AAA:rolleyes:
