I have seen some light kits on eBay that claim to be the same as the OEM fog lights. Pricing has been about half of Toyota kit. Anyone bought those?

I like the Toyota Part OEM fog light kit, but why does it ship with a generic relay? My truck is pre-wired for the fog lights. It should be a matter of just plugging a relay in to the panel should it not?

I'm not sure how far your truck is setup from the factory for OEM fog Lights. Ideally, if it is then I'd guess all you would need to obtain would be the fog liight (complete with the snap in body), factory relay, and OEM fog light switch. My guess is that you would have to order each one separately. The OEM kit I purchased was for Taco's that weren't pre-wired.

To verify your set up, I'd recommend 1st checking behind the OEM switch location to see if it is pre-wired to that location; Next I'd check to see if there is a wire harness to the fog light location. If so, then I'd check on just purchasing the fog light/housings, OEM relay, and OEM switch. If not and a OEM appearance is what you are after, the way I've listed above is one way you may obtain what you want.

Hope this helps. Good luck, hope it's wired completely.

Thanks for the tips, gsm. I checked on my truck. The manual states the top row left side switch is the location where the fog light switch is to go. Popped the blank out and a harness and connector was attached to it.

Checked underneath the truck for the light harnesses. There are two plugs attached to wires zip-tied near each location for the fog lights. I am assuming these are indeed the treasured light wires! The factory bulbs should plug right in.

Checked the fusebox and the guide lists the location for the fog light relay but it is not there. Fuse is there, however.

Checking toyotapart.com again, they only offer the kit with generic relay. I wasn't able to specify just the fog lights themselves.

Those look like the oem ones. If so a great price compared to "claimed oem". With an oem switch and depending on the wiring job could look oem.;)

I looked on eBay, but I can't find the symsales' wiring harness at this point. I know I've seen some "generic" fog light wiring harnesses at places like Pep Boys and AutoZone...I guess I could use one of these by cutting off the generic connectors and splicing in the Toyota specific connectors.

BTW, since the kit from toyotapart.com is all genuine Toyota parts, I'm considering going to my local parts counter & seeing if I can cobble all these pieces together. I'd like to try & to this mod over the weekend, and at this point the shipping charge to get the toyotapart.com kit here by Friday is too expensive.

    atebit,

Where you located in NC? I'm in Raleigh. Would be willing to help out another taco owner if needed. PM me if needed.

I didn't buy a wiring harness, ran wires myself and used the Toyota connectectors. It's quick, dressing it up to look factory is what takes time :D. Plus others that use "those" wiring harness found most to be too short and would have to splice into them to get the lenght needed.

In case anyone is interested, here are all the parts that make up the toyotapart.com fog light kit. I assume many of these are Toyota part numbers, but some items (like the fuse holders and bulbs) may not be.

    Quan---Part #--------------Desc------------------List--------Net---------Amount
    2--------81211-AA030---Lamp Unit, Fog----$179.80---$135.43---$270.86
    2--------H10----------------Fog Lamp Bulb-----$ 12.49---$ 9.49-----$ 18.98
    2--------90980-11095-----Housing Conn F----$ 8.53----$ 6.48-----$ 12.96
    4
    --------82998-24150-----Terminal, Repair----$ 5.57----$ 4.23-----$ 16.92
    1
    --------84160-04010-----Switch, Fog Lamp--$ 49.24--$ 37.42-----$ 37.42
    1
    --------90980-11090-----Housing Conn F----$ 3.57----$ 2.71-----$ 2.71
    4
    --------82998-12340-----Terminal, Repair----$ 5.60----$ 4.26-----$ 17.04
    1
    --------330-075------------Relay Socket--------$ 2.71----$ 2.06-----$ 2.06
    1
    --------330-073------------30A Relay-----------$ 2.21----$ 1.68-----$ 1.68
    2
    --------070-609------------Fuse Holder+Fuse--$ 1.45---$ 1.10-----$ 2.20
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Total---------------------------------------------------$500.50--------------$382.83

So there's almost $120 in savings by going with the toyotapart.com kit, before considering the sales tax savings (unless you live in MI). For $15 DHL they had it to me the day after I ordered it.
