    Considering how powerful smart phones are, I'm surprised nobody has made a serial adapter that allows us to program our radios with an Android. It would be so easy to switch from ARES/RACES memory bank to 4x4 fun memories.

    Yeah, I was reading up on the feature requests regarding CHIRP and some people have asked for an Android app before. I mean clearly forking the build isn't going to be possible since the libraries are completely different. The other issue is free time since the CHIRP Devs have their hands full. I wonder if WINE or CrossOver could provide the support we need to run CHIRP on Android. :D

    It looks like FTDI is woking one some Android bridging, so all you need is the software (app) to get it going. It looks like it might work off java, so you could maybe even get updates from the web.

    Man, this DMR stuff is great! I think I'm going to try and get into a China version and test this out. It looks like it has a large enough network in the US and is the EU digital standard.

    I've read about that but it seems like it's the largest network. The radio is about $180 and works with Moto's so it's worth a shot. I've already found some guys who have hacked the firmware on some of the Chinese radios and they turn them into great hardware scanners.

    How do you get those?
