I'm thinking of going up there Monday. Would you say it's worth it? I keep seeing all over Facebook that it's dumping there.

So what the heck happened up in Tahoe? It went from rain to straight snow with the snap of a finger? This is what I got this morning.

Vail Resorts Tahoe Snow Report 02/09

    24hr New Snow:

    Heavenly: 12"

    Northstar: 32"

    Kirkwood: 18"

Now I wanna go tomorrow to either kirkwood or NS but which one is it? NS got more overnight, but kirkwood has totaled around 27-40" from this storm.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Squaw is claiming 60" of new snow, but they are closed today? Grooming a base maybe?

Edit: Oh, this is why Squaw is closed.

I don't think any width ski would float over that.

Lemme know how Heavenly is. I am going to Kirkwood in the AM if its open. If not then I'll go over to heavenly and ride thurs-Sat around the lake again. When I heard about the snow reports I couldn't believe it..... SO MUCH POW.

I will probably wait until Tuesday or Wednesday now. Couldn't get tomorrow off.

Side note, USA crushing it in Olympic Slopestyle.

I just don't know what to believe for the snow report. Seems like the same garbage as last week due to the rain, but they claim 5'. We'll see what's open tomorrow I guess.

Yeah I agree. But I called Kirkwood today and they were in awe as well and told me its all there. I think (from my understanding) that Kirkwood has more because their base elevation is 7800 as opposed to Heavenly and NS are lower. From my understanding it didn't rain at Kirkwood at all, but definitely did at Heavenly, but I could be wrong. But when I go tomorrow I'll let you know how it is and throw up some pictures as well.

    ...too much shit to list.
I was at heavenly for a few hours yesterday. All the lifts were on avalanche hold for the first 1.5 hours, and then they just opened Stagecoach and Boulder lifts. Pretty chaotic, but they opened some new terrain so got some fresh "powder" tracks. It sucked cause I couldn't go any higher in elevation than Stagecoach. There was a shit ton of new snow, and kinda powder-ish, but still really wet under the surface so it was instant brakes. Had to straitline down or wet snow just stopped you in your tracks. The removed a lot of the ropes so trees are finally open, but again it was super wet especially the farther down you go. It dumped pretty hard last two nights/days, both rain and snow so reported amount of snow is totally possible. Hell my kids have a 1 hour delay today for school just from what fell last night.

The western mountains got a LOT more snow than the eastern side. Based on what I've seen and read, if you're powder chasing go to Alpine, Squaw, or NS. I haven't been to Kirkwood with this last storm, but the Doppler maps showed them getting snow while we were getting rain at lake level.
