Oh don’t be a negative Nancy. Remember I think ‘16-17 season when we barely had any snow at lake level by Christmas, then it didn’t stop snowing from January 1 till the end of March? Patience young Padawan.

But I love being a negative Nancy, that way I'm always pumped with the snow we do get. :D Sweet photo btw.

I totally remember the awesome '16-17 season, good times. I was actually out camping near Lake Ralston at the start of that first January storm when we got the first few feet and it was awesome (well, maybe not digging the truck out at the Echo summit sno-park).

Haha it took me a minute to put that one together. I’m not a Pinole born/raised. Moved here from Pennsylvania 8 years ago. Tough to beat the riding in Tahoe. Salt Lake might be one of the only places that parallels it.

That winter was epic, so many powder days I lost count. Somewhere between 35-40 on my pass. And that was weekend warrior-ing from the bay. I finally experienced snow that was “too deep”.

Nice change on the mountain in the last couple days. I got out for a bit Friday and was out with my wife and kids for a bit Sunday (schoolhouse laps) while it was snowing. Checked the forecast and decided on a few more turns this morning. If the next series of storms materialize we might be back in the trees before 2021.

Hey Tahoe Crowd - we are running around the Lake Tahoe area (Tahoma & surroundings). We can be found skiing and occasionally mountain biking with our boys (7-9 years).
We've spent quite a bit of time here over the years - but we are at the lake full time for a while...

We are looking for any activities and recommendations for spots that we may not know of!

Shoot me a PM if you are in a similar situation!
    Cheers!

Working on the family quiver tonight. Local resort opened the other day. Hoping to get a couple days in this weekend.

Still haven’t pulled out my snowboards... they can wait until a good powder day.

I'm giving the kids skis some love tonight too. Our tradition is to ski Christmas morning. This'll be day 3 of the year for our son and I think he's ready to get a little further up the mountain so I'm pretty stoked on that.

I feel like it's a fine line between not sticking in the flats and a full on race wax with the kids skis (almost 4 and 5 years old). On the little one's skis sometimes I hot wax with the iron and then don't scrape it or leave a section underfoot and scrape the rest.

Right on. I agree. I didn’t even wax my second sons skis last year (he’s seven). He did pretty good and is super stoked on skiing this year so I had him wax his own skis. He hardly scraped them... I’m hoping he’ll be comfortable by the time the snow scrapes the skis for him.

My older son did his own skis too but only because I told him I wouldn’t. He’s 10.

I helped them both but the plan is to get them to the point they can do my skis!

Yeah day one is pretty epic. Much better conditions than I expected.

Solid sessions at Sierra at Tahoe these past few weeks now that the snow is finally here! Should be up again this weekend, but if yesterday’s Tahoe-bound traffic is any indicator of how crazy it’s going to be for the holiday, I may get up there early and get the heck out to avoid the traffic coming back home.

The next two weeks are always a shit show up here, even for mid-week resort skiing.

Early New Year's Day isn't bad because most are slow starts to get out but other than that it's typically too crowded for me.
