Out of curiosity...did you have that little tailgate anti theft mod? The hose clamp on the tailgate thing?

Always wondered if it slows people down enough that they think twice about it.

Wtf! Is there a VIN on that tailgate? Most cars have a VIN on every body part unless the guy scraped it off.

danggg.. that sucks man, sorry to hear that. I caught someone back a ways looking at mine. I was walking out of Home Depot and they had it cracked open. They saw the tailgate mod and closed it. When I yelled at them they split. This was almost right after I bought this truck in january. Only reason i knew about the tailgate theft mod was from the forum when i had my 1st gen.

I'll keep an eye out for a tailgate.. and a soft topper.. haha

You need the surveillance camera mod (on your house) and the tailgate secure mod on the new tailgate. Did you call your insurance or take the truck to a body shop (or 2 or 3)?

If you haven't, You should talk to a body shop, a brand new tailgate with factory paint is not likely to match your truck color, due to fading/different paint application conditions. Granted, it's not like a body panel that has to be a perfect match, but you might notice it. A body shop might be able to tell you what it would take to actually color match the current paint. Might be more expensive than insurance is assuming.

Edit: Wait... It got stolen while you were parked at work...? That's BOLD.

Dang that sucks jay, like Ryan said take it to a body shop, the color difference will be noticeable (IMO) if you get a factory tailgate.
Any half decent body shop will be able to color match it, when I worked at a body shop we did 2 taco tailgates and they turned out just about perfect, but that's because we had a painter with a good eye with the samples and panels.

Jay, Were both victims (trucks) sliver streak mica? Might be able to save money on color matching if you take both tailgates to the same guy. (Everything costs less if its bought in bulk, since the base color code is the same).

Obviously, the color match on yours will be a little different than the pther guys, and you have to consider that metallic colors are pretty difficult to match, by their nature (flake size/direction/pattern, etc).

But... There is always the option of a tiregate. There are some pretty nice ones out there.

That really sucks, Jay! I doubt we have tailgate thefts up here, but I still try to avoid going places with my tonneau off.

Sorry to hear about your tail gates getting jacked. I work at a shop in Sacramento, let me know if we can help get your truck back to normal, with a good color match.
