Nope. No heat shield, no problem!

Oh you removed it when you did the accumulator bypass? No ill-effects you've seen from removing it?

    Yes

Nope. And I do drive some rocky roads and such. The hose is not really that close to the shaft.

Well the results are promising. Took the heat shield off and it still makes some noise but it seems to be much less. Gonna leave it off to do the clutch accumulator delete early next week, so I'll get a feel for whether or not it truly went away driving it between now and then with the shield off.

Went to Ace and got some 1/16" thick, 5/16" ID, 3/4" OD neoprene washers. Stacking them to what should be 1/8" (but it felt more like 1/4") seemed a little thick - might just go with one 1/16" washer on either side of the fastener instead of two.

Got it back on with the neoprene washers. Forgot to put threadlock on it but I don't see it coming off.

Typically, there is no need for thread lock here, but your previous image showed only about one full thread. Tightened, I am not sure if you have enough engaged to not be using some thread lock. Just my opinion.

The washers squish, there's a decent amount of thread engagement. I was just concerned about the vibration

I understand and noted that. Just sayin' that a few threads engaged would cause me to think about thread lock.

    Your Taco, your situation.

Ordered the insulated heat shield (31049-35010) and Abrasion-Resistant Cushioning Washers for 5/16" Screw Size (90131A629) from McMaster-Carr. Should be overkill on getting rid of (most) of the noise.

Wow, that's a lot of money for a heat shield.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous. Imagine due to the low demand. If it doesn't help, at least I can report back and no one else will try it lol.

Ordered one as well a few days back. I lined mine with the foil butyl stuff when I did the accumulator delete and it was okay but the sticky butyl attracts dirt and I couldn’t really tell if it made much difference. A TSB part might make a better difference. I did buy the same washers as you got, just now, so thanks for mentioning those.

Redoing my delete with the Firn disk as well instead of the dremel, just because.

I bet this is what's causing the loose metal noises for me. I wonder if a few coats of plastidip on the heat shield will be enough to change the harmonics of it.

Just groaned because I don't feel like messing with the skid plate and cat shield.

I love Derp, but it is not likely to do the trick for you, unless you are talking about the thick stuff you use for tool handles.

Honestly, the Noico sound insulation is a champ. I bought this stuff, but it looks like other options are available:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BKKZ1AM

I'd recommend the foil backed stuff and used it on the heat shield, back wall, and rear doors. Someday, I'll get to the roof and front doors.

Great to know! I got a ton of that Noico stuff. (it is heavy!). I did my 4 doors - but have not managed to get any further. I do not look forward to tearing into the Taco that much... Therefore, I have a bunch left over.
I will use some on this heat shield. That rattle bugs...

I may also try the ADM after all. I do not find it intrusive - except for every now and then when it seems to throw my timing off... Hmmm....

That is the reason that I have not gotten to the front doors and roof. I only want to be in there once and have been debating speakers and Rhino Tracks.

Good to cover both with that ADM. Two minor things add up. Haha!

I had been wondering about the noise since the first pothole I hit. Glad to know it's not a sign of a problem. Going to have to grab some noise dampening insulation. Thank you for this thread and all the info, I've been cringing every time I hit a bump.
