I'm not sure I would want to have to lift or even if the rack would hold some of my buys. Some examples from this year: gun safe; air compressor for a friend; fridge for rental property; water heater for same rental property. And while it didn't sit above the cab: cubic yard of mulch that was loaded with a front loader.

I like fiberglass caps. I like them much better than the fabric ones. I just think they're insanely over-priced and impractical. I can't believe what the caps cost. Your normal ones are in the $2k-$2.5 range. I really liked Randy's after I saw it, got a quote and nearly fainted. I believe it was $3500 or so? No thanks.

I can get a softie for $750 and use the rest of the money for other truck modifications. Then later down the road decide I'd rather have a fiberglass cap and try and sell the soft cap for dirt cheap. Isn't that how this works?

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to have a cap but need to be able to haul my offroad toys in the bed. My options would be either softtopper or hard shell and a trailer. I'd love to get a utility trailer if i could find a decent used one for cheap

#firstworldproblems :D For the trailer purchase: keep an eye on Home Depot's rental section. They occasionally sell their rental trailers. They're real nice trailers. I saw one once for $850 or so. I wish I had jumped on that. Home Depot also sells a brand through their website called Detail K2 that seem pretty decent for the cost.

Sounds like a softopper is right up your alley! Mines been in one heavy rain and I was impressed at how much water it kept out. Only leaked a little bit in a couple spots.

By George, I think you're right! Now if some kind soul would purchase my OEM bed cover, I'd be in business.

The problem with purchasing an OEM bed cover after the fact is that it is kind of a pain in the ass to swap in the appropriate bed rails for it. Or the seller doesn't want to swap rails with the buyer. I seem to remember a thread that goes into detail on the difficulties, and I'm just throwing it out there as a heads up. I almost purchased one a few months back but realized it probably wasn't worth the trouble.

I've been looking into it. The plastic rail caps just pull off. It's just a difference of one being cut out for the latch pins. If the purchaser won't swap with me, I won't do it. New ones are $100 a piece. The latches and stuff are just bolts. I don't remember seeing anything about folks having problems. Maybe I'll have to look again.

I think their issues came from the cut-outs on the regular rails because the seller wouldn't swap. I agree with you that I wouldn't buy/sell if there wasn't a swap involved. Just makes sense if you ask me. Why don't you just keep it in case you want to take off the soft topper and just run the tonneau? If you do sell it, what were you thinking on price?

It's just a matter of room really. And trying to off-set cost on a soft topper. It looks like the only issue folks were having was the lack of a rubber plug that goes where the header and sides meet. Toyota's cost is a little insane at $27 a piece. Others were getting creative. Or just not installing it at all. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rubber-plugs-for-gaps-in-bed-rail-available-now.420884/page-2

I was thinking of asking $300. Maybe let it go for a bit cheaper.

    Right...the overpriced plugs.

Please keep me in mind when you do eventually sell it, as I may be in the market for one soon and a local swap would be easier. I had one on my '16 and kind of miss it, and my '17 didn't come with one. My problem is I am considering putting a rack back there, so the tonneau would be kind of pointless unless I got a rack that worked with it in place. I need to make up my mind, which is sometimes difficult, haha.

I'd do it now if you were ready. For the rack it looks like KB Vodoo (I wouldn't buy from this dude), Mobtown, and RCI. Found this too: https://www.kore-4x4.com/collection.../cargo-carrier-platform?variant=1730004287511

I saw these guys on YouTube for the first time yesterday. Looks like a cool product but SUPER expensive ($2500). I'm not sure what the value of being able to raise the rack is.....I'm sure there is something.

Tractor Supply has some decent trailers as eell, I got mine at last year's memorial day sale, I had a 1p% off coupon and 20% off sale 5.5'x10' was $1100. Kinda steep but not as high as I've seen them

If you can sell it now, go for it. It will likely be next month before I can have permission to spend that kind of money...we are picking up our new puppy on Saturday and that is taking all of my mod money away for a bit. Worth it for sure, but it is what it is.
