Howdy, all. I was an active member a few years ago with my 2nd Tacoma, an '06 double cab 4WD, but that was traded away for reasons I don't remember now. I loved that truck.

I had an early '90s Toyota single cab truck, but my first Tacoma was a 1st Gen double cab 4WD. That was traded for the first year Tundra ext cab 4WD due to my daughters outgrowing the smaller truck's back seat. That too was traded for a 2nd Gen Tundra double cab 4WD, so I've had my share of Toyota trucks.

Now, I've found an '04 Tacoma Double Cab 4WD TRD, which I may purchase later today. I "may" because it is from a northern state. It has low mileage, but that won't keep it from being a rusted-out hulk from winter road salting. I'm counting on the dealer being straight up with me on that because I ABSOLUTELY HATE rust. We will see how this plays out later today.

My desire is for a stock '03 or '04 double cab 4WD with low mileage and a close to showroom quality as I can. I'm just hoping this one isn't in its first stages of cancer.

Welcome back, great choice on the year of your truck and it being a 4-door I love mine. Just crawl underneath the truck and inspect that frame your self. That way you know with your own eyes that you're getting a rust free truck.

Thanks. That is what I want to do, but I'm over a thousand miles away. I'll be talking with the dealer here shortly, and I will do what I can to have him be as honest as a dealer can be on this issue. I will not be happy in the least flying up there, finding a rotting hulk. All pics look good, but they don't tell the full story.

My truck was a Phoenix Arizona truck its whole life up until 2 years ago and since I have lived here in Pennsylvania I sprayed the whole frame with fluid film . And in the spring I get under and scrub the frame with warm detergent and repaint the frame so my frame will be perfect as long as I own the truck

Congratulations, you will love your decision. And don't conclude this thread, just keep it going with your new truck and what you're going to do with it. We all want to see the progress of what you're going to do with it.

I'm here in Montana where I'll pick it up in the morning. I'm hoping it is as good or better than described by the dealer. We shall see.

Really happy with my '03 w/TRD package. As I had said before, it was debadged, an aftermarket sound system was installed, and they put these 17" 4 Runner rims on it with Mickey Thompson Baja STZs. It did really well on the 1700 mile trip back home. Also, I did a little 4-wheeling yesterday in it with my wife, and everything seems to work as advertised.

What the heck, here's another one. This one was on the test drive up some icy park road.
