My wife has a Camry SE one year old and a while ago it developed a metal clanking noise coming from the front. When she starts the car and backs off the garage is a clank metal noise. After she stops and puts the car in D to go forward, there is the clank noise again. Any idea what/where from is coming from? She hates going to the dealer and after a very bad experience with a brand new Ford Focus she is super paranoid about car problems.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’m going to say check the catalytic converter heat shields are tight and not rotting off. Edit: and if they are rotting off I’d just remove them

Could be a transmission issue but I'm not a mechanic. However I have had my share of trans problems in other car brands.

Half the battle of taking a car in for repairs is knowing, or having an idea, what the problem is. It will be interesting to see what others say.

I'd take it to the dealer if it's only a year old. Should be a warranty deal.

Does the noise occur when shifting from park to R or D? Or is the noise more so when pressing or letting off the brakes?
Also, is it more of a solid clank, or does it have a rattle? This will help narrow it down to heavier components, or thinner lighter components such as heat shields.
And one more, does it just do it first start of the day, or will it do throughout the day?

The brakes sometime shift in the brackets on the camrys causing a noise D to R, usually pretty minor.

When shifting and solid clank. Looks like brake pads moving. Dealer time...
