Does the paint erode with air though? Every paint will have chips with enough rocks on the road. I lived in a state that uses sand instead of salt for ice/snow and getting chips was inevitable.

I was surprised how may TSB are posted for BBP on nhtsa.gov.

Our Forester has weak / thin paint also. It is just life these days.

That said, vehicles don't rust out in 60k like they used to when I was growing up.

No clue. I wasn’t with her long enough. She bought it new as we started talking and that thing looked beat from regular freeway driving after two years.

My parents have owned nothing but Toyota for 20 years. None have had issues with paint and they are outside 100% of the time and washes rarely. One Silver-goldish color, two of the dark grey, and one white....not sure if the color names are different than the Tacoma. Current is the dark grey and white.

just my experience. My Honda Civic did what you are mentioning. California car and the paint literally just faded out to the primer in a few years. Honda was awesome. Repainted most of the car in a recall (which is unheard of) and the car was 5 years old and had 80k miles (if I remember correctly) on it

BTW, I’m not saying you are wrong, I just personally have not experienced it being inferior, but the average for the environmentally friendly paint we use now.

lol go look up Blizzard pearl Lexus and then tell me Lexus paints are somehow still more durable.

Color for color they all chip the same. A layer of paint isn’t going to stop a rock that’s flying at the right speed and trajectory, however curvature of the vehicle body has a whole ton to do with it.

You mean there is a reason all jeeps have cracked windshields? :)

My dad went from a FJ to a jeep, and he lives in AZ half the year... I think in the past 3 years he has had 5 windshields.... he finally just gave up on getting them replaced.

I average a windshield per year in my FJ. It also makes a nice bug catcher
