Well either way you could open up the switch and see if any of the LEDs are loose. You could also kind of grab the LEDs with your fingers and see if you can shake it loose. Still be gentle with it but that could tell you too.

 

How do I open it? From the back?

 

There's three little tabs that get unclipped on the back side and then the circuit board portion will come out from the back. This is the best example I could find. It's just the slip over style that you pry in between it and the switch body.

 

I'll have to find time one day and take a look.

Bro! Anytime camera and sound deadener are a must! You can also put you trailer plug away in a much safer spot for free with a hole saw. Custom gauge would be pretty neat, got a link?

 

Definitely gotta get to the anytime camera thing, and the sound deadening thing. The problem is, time is at a premium when you have a couple young kiddos.

 

Deadener will be tough then lol. I cant remember the exact time it took but it was close to a week and like 30+ man hours. Almost impossible to do if you dont have a 2nd rig for the week. That way you can leave the entire interior stripped out. Camera was 2 hours max, much cheaper too, i think $60 bucks. Probably much faster since you already know how to pull the dash apart.

 

DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You figured the sound deadening would be time consuming, but reading that puts it into more perspective.

But a bit scared of the process because of having to pop up the needles.

 

Its a piece of cake dude. I pulled out the damn annoying door buzzer a few years ago and I had to pull the cluster apart and its very straightforward. Perfect time to kill that buzzer too since you are already in there

 

Nice! I gotta find time for that as well then.

Maybe I'll try and tackle it when I take a few days off here and there to burn through the vacation time I need to use before the end of the year.

Couple of questions (sorry they are from such an old post but just bought a 2014 and joined Tacomaworld). I found the listing for most of the black out parts, but I didn’t see the instrument cluster front and the tweeter surrounds. Also, do you have links for the parts in your headlight set up? Thanks for any help.

 

The cluster surround and tweeter surrounds I just removed and painted black. This link shows how to remove the instrument cluster ring:

For the tweeters, you have to remove the door panels, and then break off the tweeter ring since it's not clipped on, and then glue it back in place.

For the headlights... sorry, don't have a parts list. I bought them from someone who makes retros, and I just kinda told him what I wanted, and then he built them. If you're interested in a set, there are a few members on here that build and sell, and do an awesome job. @hyper15125 and @LSC15 are a couple, and I've seen a tons of pics of their stuff. Looks bad ass!
