Well I knew it was too good to be true. The one I received was for an xrunner and they can't get the correct one.

@dakotasyota give me a holler when yours are available. I'll make a donation to your long travel swap. [emoji3]

Sell your kid to science and rent out your wife. That will knock your bills down while providing extra truck money.

... I have a off topic, moral question question for you guys... I am conflicted.

I was at a local garage sale 2 days ago. It seemed like this family was selling some of their stuff and maybe a deceased grandparents stuff. I found a Yakima rack that I knew was worth more then they were asking. I buy and sell Yakima racks all the time so, naturally, I bought it to resell it. It sat in my garage for 2 days until this morning when I started cleaning it up to list it on CL. I opened the parts box and found a surprise... $1,500+ worth of currency, silver bullion, and rare coins. So the question is, return it or keep it?

Seriously? Sounds very odd that collection would be stashed in a parts box? I would return it, pending proof they could identify the items.

The family had no information about the rack or the parts. I kept asking, "do you have any other parts" (it was missing some) and "do you have any keys?" There response was, "No, this is everything we have for it" and then the guy handed me that parts box.

I use to work residential HVAC on the east side for about 8 years. I took a no heat call in the winter on Mercer Island. The house was old and the furnace was the crawl. The house had an abandoned fire place with a brick chimney, old school style with a clean out at the very bottom in the crawl, under the heat plate. This opening was near the service panel of the gas furnace, I noticed an old Olympia beer pop top can in there under some ashes. Once I looked a little closer I saw an old metal lock box half buried too. Inside was thousands of $$ in cash, diamond rings and other jewelry, and old pictures. I was shocked! I put it back in the ashes and never said a word, but I've always wondered if the current home owner out it there or if it had been forgotten years before.

If you have their phone #, I would call and ask if they are missing any items like that. It's tough because your not responsible for what they sold you, it's your property now. But, if it happened to me I'd be very grateful if someone returned it.

I totally agree but I don't have their number or any contact information at all. It was just one of many garage sales that I stopped at this weekend.
I am pretty sure I remember where they live so if I do decide to return it, I can at least try where I think it was.

I'd say you made out... if you return it they will have to claim it in the estate and estate taxes

That's a tough one for sure. It's more difficult to refuse a return in person if it's clear they didn't own it. For all you know, they bought it used with a "parts" box and never opened it.
I guess you could say that you bought an item there and found some currency in a box and would like return it if they describe what it was?

Ya, that is a good idea.
The other thing that was a little weird is that there was a casino voucher (for only $0.01) dated for 2006; like the box was time stamped for when the last time it was ever used.

If your conscience is going to bother you if you do nothing, then its not worth it. Listen to that inner voice.

If it was me, I would contact them and see what happenes. But that is how I try to be in the world. Its a karmic thing.
