Same here. My only worry is hitting a rock and pushing the tank through the bed.lol.

 

Eek good point. When I first installed the tank, I had the All Pro rear bumper and the tank was tucked away pretty good in there. Now I have the ATO high clearance bumper and the tank is just there

 

ya the all pro does provide some protection. but it would be nice to have it fully protected.

 

Your not going to destroy your tank back there, the HC hits first. If you were getting into something that big centerline you'll know by crushing your drive shaft and smashing your differential. My AVS tank has been mounted in that position for two years now and plenty of wheeling.

Nate, nice writeup, but I was wondering your thoughts on the compressor exposed to water spray or mud getting into the compressor fan and electronics. Plus being aluminum housing would it hold up to corrosion over time being exposed to the elements and possibly shorting out. I plan on doing something similar, but plan to keep the compressor in a dry environment, i.e the engine bay or behind the rear seat in the cubby. Just wondering if any of this crossed your mind...

 

Mine is behind my driver side rear seat, love it for the most part. We'll see if it gets too annoying after my lockers get installed

 

Yeah... I'm thinking similar. Just need to figure out where to run the air line out of the cab to the air tank under the bed. Can't remember if we have a grommet hole in the rear of the cab to exit the line? I've only ran things out the drivers side firewall to the engine bay.

 

Yup we do, at least I think.. I know there is at least one right next to the driver side. Thursday im having my gears and lockers installed so I can take pics of it all torn apart then if you'd like.

 

If you have a tank installed then you should only have the initial fill to deal with. My 1.5 gallon tank can lock/unlock my locker numerous times without needing refilled. like I've never had it turn back on offroading for a weekend until I inflated my tires.

 

I don't have a tank... YET. Its on the short list of mods. I should just do it all at the same time though... Im thinking a 3 gallon should be plenty. Where did you get your tank?

What else would I need to get? I assume the tank port fittings, but do I need a pressure switch with relay? Both of those are the in "frequently bought together" section if you don't know what im talking about

 

Yea get a viair pressure switch. It has the relay built in. That way you dont ever have to worry about it filling too high. Or if you have a leak, you don't have to worry about it getting too low bc it'll automatically fill up

 

When I set up my OBA on my old crawler, I used a tank exactly like that (bought it from Sun Performance I think). Worked very well.

You also need a safety pop-off valve, in case the pressure switch fails and the pump fails to automatically turn off. On at least one occasion, it saved my ass.

 

Just get the Viair fittings kit (90005). Only $10 on Amazon

 

Thanks guys!! Didn't know Viair tanks were steel (at least that one) so probably going to get the same tank @Nate87 did instead.. Along with the pressure switch w/ relay and fittings kit.

 

I could be wrong but doesn't the ARB twin have a pressure switch built in?

 

yes it does. Works great.

Here is a picture of my ARB twin the the cover pulled. See that little round guy with two metal prongs in center of photo? That's the built in pressure switch.
