I had to pass a military convoy going up a long hill out of Bend OR. It was that or be stuck behind for a looooonng time. Got to 250 at TC and 230 at the pan just before the hill top. Have an aftermarket cooler and it dropped down to 200 within about 15-20 seconds after pass the top of the hill. The universe did not implode as some on TW might have predicted with those temps. It’s ok to be higher for short time periods. The fluid failure tables are having the fluid at that temp for an hour straight. I changed my Transmission fluid after that at 65,000 miles and it was not black. Slightly darker than new. The link is for the towing tests. Taco is rated at 6500 or less depending on specs.

TC being unlock is the good thing. You get more out of the engine.
SLU being off is causing your TC temps going up and won't come down until SLU is On.
This is where benefits of having a tune come in play. You can optimize tc management to avoid excessive heat.
Add SLU next time you go over the same hill.

Thanks for the response and explanation. It's encouraging to read about your experience with the 250 degree TC temp and your fluid change at 65k.

I've added SLU to my dashboard as a digital gauge and it shows a "0" or "1". But I don't really understand what each value means.

I assume the KDMax tune would help manage this better than the stock perameters?

Tunning is a compromise between the system design and driveability.
You need to understand all aspects of the Tacoma OEM engine operation in various conditions before getting a tune.
In my case, SLU is shut off in 1 through 3rd gears in the tune (1, 2 are by default OEM settings, 3rd by the tune). I only stay in 3rd in slow residential traffic and this is not the issues for me
If you stay in 3rd under heavy load and high speeds for a long periods of time, you need to ask KDMAX to adjust tc management For 3rd gear They'll help you.

Like you, I have a 2023, and I've told the app that I have a 21 so I could run the Toyota specific PID's. I can't seem to get the gear status working, or the engine oil temp. What pids did you use for those?

    Thanks for any help!

Update... was messing around with the dashboard at work today, and got them both working now.

So I'm in a bit of a pickle. My old phone lost wifi and bluetooth so I had to get a new one but I never backed my gauges up. I just created a Dropbox account and was thinking maybe I could still get those if I was able to connect my phone to my laptop then down load the file. Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm guessing I just have to create new ones but thought I would ask.

Probably have to create a new one. But try the Dropbox option first.

There’s a thread on here about sharing dashboards. They use drop box and probably explains how.

You can export settings to a file system, including dashboards.
Then try to move the file (.stg) to a new phone and import

Finally got around to doing this and it was really easy. Moved the file from old phone to my computer then from my computer to my new phone and imported it to the app. I moved a copy to Dropbox as well so I won't have to do that again. Thanks!

Thank you for answering my question before I even asked it.

I was about to take a flyer and download the 2021 PID set and hope it would work on my 23.

It's been working well on my 23 so far!

I did email customer support before I did a search here, and they replied a day later with the same recommendation to try the 21 PID's

You may need to set vehicle as 21 in the settings to get pids working.

Thank you for the heads-up on that.

I'm going to tinker with it when I have some time over the weekend.

I did have to set my vehicle as a 21 in order to download the enhanced OEM add-ons.

I can't remember if I did that before or after I downloaded the add on pack.

I did change my model to 2021 at some point and added a few gauges, but I have not tested any of the new PIDs yet.

Looking forward to it, though. I need to get it somewhat set up for what I want (trans temps, oil temp, gear position and torque converter lock status) before we pick up our camper on the 23rd.

I'm using a obdlink MX+, and the enhanced add-ons wouldn't even show up as an option until I changed the year to a 21 in the vehicle profile. The fusion app may be different?

Btw...cool avatar! Been a fan since the early 80's....unfortunately, haven't seen them live since Powerslave tour though.
