Hey Guys, Heading to OBX in July and plan on doing some surf fishing. I know this isnt the best month for it but its the best month for us I guess, lol. What can I expect fishing there, and any tips about best times, best baits, best fish to target, etc? I grew up in Panama City Beach, so I am no stranger to surf fishing and have the gear I need, just looking for some local pointers. Will be beach camping on Harkers Island. I was thinking of bringing some brined shrimp chunks for bait and a cast net and some hand nets, so will have ability to catch sand fleas and small bait fish if needed.

    Thanks for any help!

Pompano are fun to target in the summer with fleas. Spanish will be there, puppy drum, cobia are around, sharks of course, sea mullett(aka whiting). Plenty of species to target for sure. Sounds like an awesome trip.

    cool thanks for the feedback..
I was hoping for Pompano, honestly, since flounder is closed. I also will bring some Spanish top water rigs.. when you say puppy drum, are you talking about Redfish/Red Drum, or is that something else?
