Just like the title there a slight clunking noise when the brakes are pressed going forward and back. Doesn't happen 100% of time. Seems to happen more after sitting/when brakes are cool. I basically rebuilt front end this summer in July, ball joints, tie rods, cvs, bushings, struts. It's been happening since then, I just haven't thought anything of it and now I'm just annoyed, any help will be appreciated.

axle wrap....I'm to lazy to find you link (normally I would). Do a search on it, I just learned to deal with it at this point. You can also try tightening the u-bolts if that doesn't work you try add a leaf kit very inexpensive.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I just put some new OME Dakars and rough country shocks about 2 months ago. I thought it was axle wrap too but it wasn't. Any other suggestions?

I swapped my front brakes to tundra brakes and noticed a clunk afterward. After a lot of research it appears that the brake pads shift in the caliper on the tundras and make a clack/clunk sound. For some reason it is designed this way from the factory. It only happens when going from braking in reverse to braking in forward or vice versa.

My axle wrap persisted after I did a full OME w/Dakar install.

My guess is that you are throwing a ton of money and effort toward the wrong items. Make peace with it and you will find happiness. Otherwise, you may end up replacing EVERYTHING and still end up where you started.

Are you sitting at a dead stop with brakes on and rocking it forward and back? Or you talking slow speeds? Parking lot type speeds? little more info might help narrow it down.

Sounds to me like something came loose. I would go back over EVERYTHING that you touched when you did the front and rear work. It could be something as simple as a shock bolt coming loose to front A arm bolt came loose.

Ive just had this same problem happening for the last couple weeks. slowing down while braking causes an intermittent clunk sound. sometimes it happens around 20 miles an hour sometimes right after i come to a complete stop. i havent had much time to look into it just yet but think i will look at the calipers first. it sounds like a metallic cast iron kinda pop and only happens once per stop from the drivers front only. ive read some have had loose lca bolts cause this sound idk.

Thanks for all the info, I'm thinking I'll check the pads if they're shifting.

Hmm ok I'll have to look more into axle wrap too. I didn't replace everything just cause of the clunk, it was all replaced cause my control arm bushings were seized so couldn't align it. And a torn cv.

Yeah that's something I have considered, I'll check it. It never really sits for days,1-2 max cause it DD. I'm south Texas so in summer it's was 100 often, now down in 40's occasionally, still does it occasionally.
Yeah this sounds similar to what's been happening to me except mine hasn't when slowing from 20, it's been from a stop or pulling into driveway type speed.
It's from a dead stop, not rocking it back and forth but will try it to see if maybe it's the pads shifting. Never does it at parking lot speeds, occasionally pulling into driveway. Most often happens when reversing from driveway, which makes me lean towards it being pads shifting from pulling in forward.

Could be simple brake related. Slider pins binding, then the caliper 'pops'. Pads moving because of improperly installed retainers, or the little 'return' springs are missing.

I'd start by pulling out the mounting hardware, being sure it's clean and well lubed, and that all the pad mounting hardware is in place and lubed where it should be lubed.

I'm noticing the same symptoms on my 02 DC Pre Runner . I'm noticing a slight clunk upon releasing the brake pedal when I'm leaving from a traffic light but its very intermittent

    I'm thinking a brake caliper hanging ??

make sure your drive shaft slip yoke is greased. I grease mine every 4000 miles and it almost eliminates all of the clunk or push feeling when releasing the brake.
