Went through some other posts titled this and I couldn’t find anyone really having the same issue as mine. I just did a 350 mile road trip about, yesterday, and now I’m hearing this rubbing noise whenever I drive. When I put it in 4wd it sorta stops but it’s also hard to tell because of the engine noise I’m getting and stuff. But I’m positive it’s really loud when My hubs are free’d and I’m in 2wd. Not sure what it is but maybe someone here will have an idea? It’s sorta scaring me and I can’t really pinpoint where exactly it’s coming from. Thanks.
    Here’s how it sounds

Yeah I know. Any idea why it’s not happening in 4wd?

Nope. Not a clue on that partner. Sorry. Have you checked the CV joints. Sounds almost like a clackety clack that typically you only hear when turning if they are going bad.

Put the front up on jack stands, spin the front tires and see if you can recreate the noise.

That was presumptuous of me to assume everyone on TacomaWorld owns those.

Checked my cv joints for play but they don’t have a whole lot. Looks like the passenger side one is a blue color so maybe that one was replaced before and then the other one is just black. It sorta made a noise when o shook it to look for play too. Should I take it to a mechanic if no one on here knows what it is? I really just don’t wanna spend a lot of money unless I absolutely need to.

Haven’t checked them in a while. Should that be a first step?

I'd put the truck up on jackstands and spin each of the wheels. See if you can recreate the sound.

I had a whooshing noise that appeared one day and it was from my tires that were worn unevenly from bad alignment. I swapped them to the rear and the noise went away.

There’s an Aamco right across the street from me, I’ll see if they can realign them and help me out or something. I also don’t have jack stands so need to go to my buddy’s for that

Just jack up the frame. Don't get under it. Take your bottle jack and stick it under the front crossmember and get the frame off the ground.
